Of course Buening would have plans, sheesh! You engineer folks amaze me. I made mine about a year ago. I only put one offset hole in them as I have adjustable lower arms which should give me plenty of adjustment.

Plumb bob, tape measure and level. Love it! Think I've got about 6 of each.

Welcome Zippo. Very nice looking car. You got the stance just right.

With my car, neither bolt holes nor fixed points are symmetrical side to side. I bought my 69 in 1989, and I am just now getting use to it.

The manual adapter is about $150. I was able to get manual link and arms for less, plus it looks cleaner. Only option I had at the time was a Flaming River box.

Welcome Frank, and very nice work. The hood blackout area looks green in one pic and matte black in another, is it black? Hidden damage ids fun eh? It sounds like you were unaware of it, did the seller disclose the damages?

My engine mounts wouldn't line up, so I had to remove the top bolt on each mount bracket so they could rotate and allow the mounts to bolt up. Any thoughts?Pretty common way to install them, for me anyway. It sounds like you got them installed, right?

I'm never bored or disappointed when I view this thread, nice work. I really like your wheel choice. So let me get this straight, you inquire about a set of custom wheels, and the moron tells you that the offset is too modern??? You did what I'd have done and spent your money with someone who provides service.

Mark, as Fordguy69 said, yes they do make asymmetrical u joints. When I recently bought a set for my Mach, one was too wide for the skip yoke only. It fit the drive shaft just fine. As long as you have the measurements, you can check the u joints while at the parts store.

Either measure the width of the yoke between the snap rings, or take the yoke into the parts store to get the correct u joint.

While we are on the subject, what about the rear end, especially for autocross or pro-touring?I'll admit that I watched "R U Faster than a Redneck". The thing I saw often was the classic cars would lose traction and spin out, often times ending up in the infield. What can be done to improve the rear handling characteristics of our cars and keep the back of the car BEHIND it?
Chuck
Most of the moron American drivers on the redneck show drive too deep into turn one before braking, or brake too hard causing them to miss the turn. It doesn't matter which rear suspension they have, as driving skills usually win.

Thanks Crazyhorse.

Thanks Bruce, I did weld it up that way. The beads are on the top of the tubes about 8" in from the bearings. No heat issues at the bearings. I was worried about an arc between 2 pieces like the ring and pinion gears. They seem to spin fine. Thanks guys.

Agree on the warpage, thank you. However I'm only concerned or unfamiliar with damage that may occur to the internals.

I'm going to be welding four 2" beads for brackets on the tubes. Do I need to disassemble the rear end? Will the electric current damage the gears and bearings? Anyone welded on an assembled housing? Any advice or knowledge is appreciated.

Carb plate is the easiest location.

Ok, that makes sense, I get it now. I think there are 3 different names that can be used for every part on the car. Thanks.

Hey latoracing, I really enjoy checking your progress. Very nice work indeed. In your post #183 you say
"I know for shure the 3- link mount will crash the sail panel at the top..."
I can't figure out what that means. When you say sail panel, are you referring to the body panel where the roof and quarter panel meet? I know, I know, I'm a bit slow :)

Car looks real nice. Which rear disc brakes did you get?

Swedged tubes are available at Speedway, AFCO and many other on line stores.
Jim, if and when you cut threads, I heard a tip of using white pvc pipe. Easy on the bits and cheaper than steel.

Very nice work as usual Jim. I don't know which is better, your machine work or the write up. With your skills I'd have thought you would have turned the threads on the lathe :) Thanks for documenting your work.

This is the first time I've seen your thread, glad I saw and read it. Very nice work so far. I've liked the strut front suspension since I first saw it a few years ago, but wasn't comfortable doing it myself. Those front tires sure fit nice in there. What do you guys with r&p steering use for headers? Nice red for the color, but I'm partial. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Fiberglass Rear Side Panels

I think quality speakers in the holes would look better than trying to fill them with fiberglass. Don't know how you could match the grain without making a mold.
