TommyTheCat 10 Report post Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) I made a quick U-turn and had to push the wheel fully to the left. The steering immediately became very tight, and it was difficult to do anything beyond a gradual turn thereafter. I double-checked the pump fluid and the belt is fine... but the steering remains sluggish at low speeds. Is it possible for a pump to break spontaneously like that, or should I be looking elsewhere on the steering? LoneWolf2U 136 Report post Posted July 8, 2013 Check the control valve, it sound like your troubles are coming from that steering part.
TommyTheCat 10 Report post Posted July 8, 2013 Thanks. I've tested it a bit more, and it seems to turn normally while parked with high revs. Does that still point toward the control valve, or is the pump the culprit?
Boogerschnot 12 Report post Posted July 10, 2013 Sounds like your pump is shot..
TommyTheCat 10 Report post Posted July 13, 2013 FIXED, without buying a new power steering pump. I simply tapped on the fore end of the power steering shaft with a hammer. It was unseated by maybe a quarter inch, and it now works just fine. :thumbup1:
