Jimjific 23 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 Hello Everyone, Does anyone have a good method for repairing the plastic on a console? I have a couple of cracks that go all the way through and need repair before I install it. Thanks, Jim
stangs-R-me 121 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 If the back side of the area that needs to be repaired is open, then fiberglass resin & matting will repair / reinforce it nicely. Years ago I had a console out of a '70 that was all broken from a wreck and fixed it / made it usable this way. Doug
69gmachine 15 Report post Posted July 9, 2012 I would reinforce the entire lower edge where the attachment screws go as that's where cracks tend to start. I did that on mine as a preventative measure even though it has no cracks. Also, do you have the two metal braces that go under the console? They add a lot of structural support. Once I had a crazy woman (redundant I know) riding shotgun and she decided to unbuckle her seatbelt and climb over the console to investigate a rattling noise in the back seat area. Fortunately she weighed 90 lbs soaking wet and the console didn't crack anywhere, but 40 something year old plastic is fairly brittle and if yours is any color other than black, it's not easily replaceable.
