1969 351w backfiring through carb

Recommended Posts

Great to hear its running god. It is unfortunate the previous owner of your car put a 302 firing order cam in your 351w. I could be wrong but I heard Ford used a different firing order on 351w's because the 289-302 firing order of 1-5-.... put too much load on the front main bearing. I know a long time ago before there were many 351w firing order cams available my older brother had to install a 289-302 firing order cam in a 351w. After about 10k miles it developed a main bearing knock in the front of the motor. Not certain, but we thought it was because of the cam firing order.

Back in the day that was all you could get from some of the parts places. But now it is different. I remenber having to use one for a rebuild in my 351 stang and got out out as soon as I could find a suitable one with correct firing order. Because of the same thing 1961 mach1 is talking about.
