Print Dad 58 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 Hello All, I am looking to replace the lens on the Mach clock. The clock works fine but the lens has a crack. I see that the new lens comes with the pointer handle attached. I assume that I just pull the clock panel, unscrew the clock and the internals will come out. I just want to be certain that it is just a plug and play situation - -where the interal working of the clock will come off - -leaving the lens and pointer.. Will I encounter any issues putting things back together? It seems pretty simple but not certain and figured I'd ask before spending $50.00 for the lens. Thanks - -Print Dad
Selder 22 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 Hi Print Dad, I just replaced my clock lens for the same reason. I also bought a 'quartz clock conversion kit'. Just be carefull. The 'set stem' below goes through 3 parts ; lens (with green pointer) - clock spacer - clock The first time I pulled the clock out of my car I lost the 'set stem pinion' and the little spring ! I never found both again ... (www.clocksandgauges.com has sent me new ones). Take your time, doing the replacement in a clean room. It' s easier to find these little part when they get lost ... The black 'set stem knob' screws to the set stem. Mine didn't get off ... I kept the stem and knob as one part. Place the little spring and pinion on the back of the stem. Take a strap to hold lens-spacer-clock together. My spacer had no screw holes (seems he never had ...). This way you can't damage the green pointer. Try and you will see. Hope this helps, Hans. Print Dad 58 Report post Posted January 3, 2011 Hello Hans, Thanks for the info. I am not certain I understand. I have pulled the entire clock and housing out when doing a heater core but didn't look at the clock itself. If I recall there were 3 small bolts that hold the clock to the housing. From your post - it seems as though there is a spacer behind this. What I am still a little confused with is the lens I am lookimg at has a pointer arm attached. Not sure how that attaches to my original clock. I do not wna to break my clcock. Thanks - -Print Dad
Selder 22 Report post Posted January 3, 2011 Hi Print Dad, My first picture shows what's inside the housing. Just pay attention to 'the set stem' when disassembling the clock. The green pointer is nothing more than a useless part of the lens. It's not connected to the clock ! There's about 1 inch of free space between the green pointer and the hour-minute-seconds pointers. You can't see it when looking in front of the clock ... that's true. I hope this helps, Greets, Hans.
