oil cap to air cleaner hose

Recommended Posts

Maybe a stupid question, but im looking at replacing my original snorkel type air filter with aftermarket such as k & N. with that being said were does the oil cap to air cleaner hose go. Is it necessary anymore with an aftermarket one. And if not what was the original intent of this hose.

Thanks

Release of excess crankcase pressure via the pcv valve to a an area of slightly lower pressure (air breather). The reason is goes in the breather is that it two fold. one the pcv valve spring is calibrated to both engine vacuum and the pressure created in the breather. Two, the gases flowing into the air breather can mix with other fresh air and be reused. Some engines fed this tub into the carb spacer but unless the valve was meant for this I figure there will be incorrect pressure differential and also less time to mix the air in as in dumps in the manifold.

You can old school it by putting a breather tube verticlaly down the frame rail. this used the venturi effect at speed to produce a vacuum and can in theory dump blow by oil on the road (or your headers). This is not really a positive system. You can use a breathable cap, which if you have a tight engine that wont spue oil out might be fine. You can use a breather filter and oil catch can with no pvc. You may have to experiment. It depends a lot on the engine.
