SlimeGold 69 15 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) I work for the local school system in the technology-A/V department (running alot of cat-5 cable, fiber, phone work, etc), and as a county employee I can take night classes at the Voc for free. So I signed up for Auto Service class two nights a week form 6:00 to 9:00. I started last week and get access to all the cool stuff like lifts, tire machines, alignment machine, plus any kind of tool you can think of. For one of my projects I'm setting up my rear gears. They have a hot-tank to clean parts and I'm like a kid in a candy store with all this stuff. I sugest if you have time, investigate local night classes in your area. Most should also offer auto body, welding, etc. so if you have a desire to paint your own car or weld in new sheet metal and don't have the equipment, here is a good option. The cost is $50.00 for each class here. It's well worth the cost if you can get use of all this equipment and you will learn something in the process. I'm sure many of you are equiped with nice shops and many years of experience yourself but for those on a tight budget and small garges with no paint booths or a lift it's a good idea. I have worked on and been around cars all my life but I have learned alot already especialy with newer computer controlled systems so it will be a good experience for me. ForceFed70 14 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 $50 a night is a smoking deal. People pay more than that to rent shop space without the tools. Wish I could find something like that around here...
SlimeGold 69 15 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) You only pay one time- $50.00 for ALL 30 nights. It works out to around $1.66 for the 3 hours of shop time each night or about 55 cents per hour. Edited February 4, 2009 by SlimeGold

You've got to be shittin me! There's no way they arn't losing money on that deal. Maybe they are funded by the community or local gvmt or something? SlimeGold 69 15 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 It's part of the local public school system so it's funded thru state and local funding. I pay plenty of taxes here in VA so I don't feel so bad and I work for the county so it's free for me.
