pat351w 10 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 My 69 is in the shop for paint I want to go with Dupont 4775 Wimbledon White and the blue shelby lemans stripe over the hood roof and trunk. I am having problems verifying the blue I was told Guardsman Blue, is this correct the chip looked too light. Thx
Pakrat 1,043 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 That was one of Shelby's color combo's on his cars prior to the 69' year, yes. Do you have all the correct dimensions already? Since you aren't duplicating anything that ever really exisited I would do what ever blue you like best and not worry about a correct blue since technically there isn't one for 69'. The dimensions are more important than anything for it to look right.
pat351w 10 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 Hi Pak, I got the stripe measurements from a book titled how to paint your mustang but it does not show the measurement between the 2 stripes. Its a restomod I can wing it. Thanks for your reply. Pat B
amorrow 10 Report post Posted March 25, 2008 I'll take this opportunity to make my first post! Guardsman blue was the color used for stripes on early Shelbys. Below is a pic of the deck lid of my '65 for reference. Also, here is a link showing how the original LeMans stripes were spaced and tapered... http://site.cobranda.com/tech/lemans.pdf (the distance between the stripes is a consistent 2")
