*JackBurton* 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Almost made a huge f-up tonight on my mustang. I grabbed a starter for a '69 manual. I need either an automatic old style starter or got with a mini-starter right? I have a t-5 50oz 157 tooth flywheel rebalanced to 28oz and t-5 bellhousing. Thanks Sean
bnickel 10,004 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 correct. i would use the late model starter, personally. it doesn't take much to wire it in properly and you don't have to mess with the original wiring at all.
*JackBurton* 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 the starter bolted up but the starter never fully seated in the hole between the backing plate and bellhousing. Going to the correct starter should fix that? At least i hope it does.
bnickel 10,004 Report post Posted November 22, 2006 yes that will fix it. the snout of the early manual trans starter is slightly larger which is why it doesn't seat correctly
wheelie 10 Report post Posted November 22, 2006 Use a starter for 87-93 Mustang would be the best bet. You can find some smaller starters too. If you can get your hands on a Ford Racing starter, they are very good, and small to boot.
