Shock Tower Problem?

Recommended Posts

I’ll start off by saying body work is somewhat foreign to me, so please forgive my ignorance. When taking off the front suspension, I discovered that the bottom of my shock tower is damaged by rust.

The areas around the damage seem solid and the part of the tower inside the engine bay seems solid. My question is, what type of repair is required for this problem? Does the whole shock tower need to be replaced, do I need to weld in a patch for this area or do I just ignore it all together? Thanks for your help.

I would definately replace the tower. The bottom of the tower overlaps the frame rail and it appears that area is rusted through. I'd check the inner frame rail once the tower is out as well to make the rail isn't compromised.

I've replaced one tower but rust wasn't my problem. It wasn't too bad if you have a welder, air chisel, a way to remove the spot welds and patience.
