  7. OK, I have a few parts in primer, and want to get some color/clear on before it gets too cold. I don't really have a heated space to paint and sand. How long can I ait to color sand and buff? I mean, can I shoot the paint, and color sand in the spring when it is warmer? I understand it will be "harder" by then and more difficult to cut, but is it feasible? I want to get paint on the parts before they flash rust, cause primer is still porous, right?

  9. Nice, good to hear you have had good results. I know I'm probably not going to do the greatest job, but I'm actually looking forward to this. I'm hoping to have most of the rust fixed and parts mostly in primer before summer sets next year. Just depends on how much I learn and if I need to replace any sheet metal. I might have to get new doors and the left quarter. Fenders seem to be ok, but only time will tell. Trunk is bad, but they don't make aftermartket for the coupe, so I will have to fab something up. The vinyl top has one rip in it, I will patch that up the best I can, I'm afraid of what the roof looks like if I pull the top off.
  10. Started an adult education class on body work. I will be bringing in parts of my 69 coupe and working on them. The car has one last show to go to in it's rusty state and then gets put away for the winter. I hope to get : trunk, fenders, and doors fixed and in primer, hood is ok, has one dent that I should be able to fix. left quarter is bad (right one was replaced some time ago, before I bought it). I like the idea of the class, because I have a whole shop at my disposal and will hopefully learn how to fix things right. As soon as I figure out how to get pics on here, I will post some. Some questions: how do you get the hood/headlight bucket trim off? The car seems to have been resprayed, poorly. I want to do a complete repaint, I think the stuff on there now is enamel. Any concerns about going to newer types of paint? Sorry for the dumb questions, but, hey, I'm dumb :biggrin:
  11. I don't know... I tried it with one pump of the throttle, same issue. high idle does not engage, car has a rough time starting. I popped the hood, manually set the high idle and the car fired up like a dream. I guess I could just set it every time I need to start it cold.
  12. Ok, just so everyone knows, I did run a search of the forum first... lol. My 302 has a edelbrock carb on it. When I try and start it from cold, pump the gas three times, etc. It will fire up, but stumble hard and I need to keep my foot in the gas for a while. Noticed my high idle is no kicking on. If I go to the engine and "set" the high idle by hand, it starts just fine. The choke flap does not close all the way. Should I start by setting the choke so it closes completely and see if that engages the high idle? First time dealing with carb engine other than motorcycles.
  13. I did, lol. Awesome video, I want to replace the actual drum too. I might go unboosted discs up front. Money is a major factor here.
  14. Thanks for the info TexasEd. I forgot to mention I wanted to do the bearings too. I thnk the brakes are "ok", but they groan sometimes and pull to the right sometimes. I had the car inspected when I first bought it, and it passed.....
  15. Was thinking of replacing everything on the brakes (drums all around) to make sure they are in good working order. I don;t have the funds to go discs. I don't mind the drums, they pull to the right every now and then. Was going to get a rebuild kit and replace the drums also. Now, the front drums and hubs are pressed in together right? So, do I need to buy new drums and hubs and studs etc? How to I check the old drums to see if they are ok and just order the interior rebuild kit? Help?
  16. Well, my 12 year old daughter suddenly wants to work on the car. I think she got bit by the bug. So, it looks like I will be keeping the car whether I want to or not, lol. Ordered some books and such on how to do things, etc. It is fun, just different for me.

  18. Been tracking down a leak in the car and noticed something: the front windows have the metal tracks on the rear part, but the quarter windows don't have any weatherstrip on them. Are both windows supposed to have the metal weatherstrip on them? Yes, still a newbie, so be gentle :whistling:
  19. That is the truth, too many fools on the road for bikes if you ask me. I have had the car inspected, runs good, brakes were good (pulls to the right sometimes, but passed inspection), and I had to have the power steering piston replaced. Thinking of taking an autobody course and the local community college. Everytime I think about selling it, I start it and just cruise, or just look at it, lol.
  20. Hello there, internet friends! New guy here, bought a 69 302 coupe(actually traded a Harley for it) and am starting to wonder if I did the right thing. The car is in decent shape, engine not original, newer interior, new boxes, new floor pans. Drums all around, rust on doors and one quarter, someone did an "ok" respray at one point. Doors need aligned correctly, they flare out on the bottom and just need adjusted. My concern is this beautiful car will go to crap while under my care. I can't weld, can't spray, never worked on drums, etc, but willing to learn. Treat me like a 2nd grader, what is the best thing to do first? Like learn to weld, or just drive the thing, lol.
