  1. At times I feel like I'm a slave to this car, trying to squirel away as much money as I can for it, trying to make it to the garage to do a little work to it. Constantly looking for parts, hell I even spent 25 grand going to Wyotech to learn how to do the body work and paint the damn thing. It pisses my girlfriend off to no end when she askes what I'm thinking about and I mention "The 69." I have to try to convince her it's for her too, and how much fun she'll have riding in it. I really wish females had "The vision."

  2. I have 70 coupe bolt in glass, green tinting. I bought these out in California, and hauled them back to Ohio before I looked into if it would work in a fastback. I thought if I wished hard enough it would work, well you know what they say, wish in one hand and sh#t in the other, but anyways, make offer. I would love it if I didn't have to package these up for shipping (I attend the all Ford Carlisle, both Spring and Fall Ford Superswaps in Columbus, OH, I have family in Asheville, NC that I visit at least once a year, and would even consider driving several hundred miles to deliver if the price is enough to offset the gas. Again, I said make offer don't take that as "an arm and a leg" call me a dumbass but I'm not trying to get rich off of my parts, I just want to get the parts I can't use to people who can.

If anyone has bolt in glass for a fastback they want to sell let me know.

  3. I hope I'm not bothering you all too much with my polling questions, but since car show season is over I can't go out and drool over other people's mustangs to pass time. I've been on and off working on my 69 for eleven years, tore it all apart a month after getting it, down to the shell. Sometimes when I'd look at it I forget it's a car and just see a garage full of parts that could double or triple my initial investment if I wanted to sell them. What I'm getting at is wanting to know how long it took, those of you who tore apart your whole car, to get it done? Anybody over eleven years?

  4. I spent roughly two years doing the shipping and receiving for a NOS Ford parts business, and had to learn the hard way about UPS, it was a complete dash assembly for a 90's Lincoln that went out the door for $1000. It was crushed by UPS and the company I worked for had to eat every cent. Luckily I wasn't fired. I was given thorough instruction for packaging for UPS. You have to assume it will be crushed in on every side. Cutting wood strips to run end to end, and top to bottom, and like what was said earlier 6 inches in all directions. When receiving a package you must open it before the driver leaves. I believe in the small writing it specifically states the inspection in front of the driver. Trim pieces were shrink wrapped to wood strips and shipped in pvc tubes. They loved being able to tell me when they had a rare piece that it's the only one in the parts locating system, and shipping glass made me sweat bullets.

Happy shipping guys, and we can all learn that our desire for overkill isn't wasted when it comes to packaging.

  5. Last fall and spring were shockers as far as the prices of the cars in the corrals. I figured because the economy wasn't doing to good people were dumping their cars for cash. I'm not in this hobby for an investment, so it's a nice change of pace. It'd be nice to know my mach was going to be worth 30-50k when I was done with it but it's not like I'm going to sell it. I remember in the late 90's seeing a rough boss 302 roller for 9k. Those were the days.

  6. Just curious if anyone else attended the Columbus, Ohio superswap this weekend?

It's fun to see the ups and downs from the spring to fall superswaps, and vice versa. One noticeable observation was how few people were carrying around parts yesterday. I overheard multiple sellers complaining that no one wanted to pay what they were asking. It looks to me that the market is bringing the parts prices down to pre-ebay/ Barret Jackson over inflated prices. Certain sellers are still wanting to ask an arm and a leg for parts, but we as buyers are starting to refuse to pay it.

Does anyone remember the Boss 429 guy who used to show up to swap meets? I used to see him at several meets throughout the year, and he had the largest collection of Boss 9 parts, but he really believed that Y2K was going to be the end of civilization, he even was putting a sign up saying he was selling everything because of Y2K.

  7. Correct restorations are for trailer queens. I'm all about using modern technology to make my cars better than 1969 specs so when these hoity toity new car buffs want to talk smack against my forty year old mustang, I can prove them wrong and look better while doing it. Long live these damn mustangs.

  8. Well the reason probably being that not all stuff claiming to be made in the usa isn't. They are making stuff in china and sending it over here to be finished off and claiming made in the usa. We can do it better over here, and we always have. Our darkest days were through the 70's and 80's but I still see more American made cars on the road than the jap or euro ones from that era.

A quick story, the company my dad works for was bought out several years back by an international conglomerate so he deals with Europeans of several nationalities. An Austrian engineer told my dad of a trip to China to a plant where generators were made. The Chinese had a problem with their generators shorting out, so this Austrian was paid to evaluate their whole manufacturing process from start to finish. Well he found the problem, there were two of these Chinese slave laborers who didn't know that they were soldiering wires on wrong. The Austrian pointed out the problem to the officials that hired him. They stopped production assembled everyone outside and executed the two men who had been soldiering the wires wrong. That's Chinese quality control. Do you want to support that?

  9. I'm pretty sure I have three FMXs and I would gladly give them to someone who wanted them for their car(s). They are cores, and I wouldn't put them in anything without rebuilding them. Although when my dad and I get around to his 69, it has one with no more than a couple thousand miles on it. When he had it rebuilt they had a heck of a time finding parts for it. So that is the only reason I held on to the ones I have. So there you have it. Three free FMXs if anyone wants them, I just want the shelf space back.

  10. Alright folks, maybe there are some dreamers out there like me. My dad pretty much refuses to dream about engines he can't afford. What are engines you'd like to see in 69/ 70 mustangs? Please no non-Ford engines.

Personally I'd love to get a set of the Jon Kasse Boss Nine heads to slip down in my 69 Mach.

  11. Hey S code, maybe that's why they brag about using thicker gauge sheet metal and more spot welds, their steel is weakened by rice contamination. I get pissed when I buy parts for my old Fords and they try to sell me imported parts because they are "cheaper." Piece by piece soon all the old cars will slowly become imports.

  12. It kills me when I hear people say that the newer Fords aren't on par with imports as far as quality, and what I'll call endurance reliability (running trouble free for 100,000/ 200,000+ miles. There are some cars, probably built on Fridays that will be destined to be lemons, having problems day one. I'm on my third Ford that is about to break 200,000 miles, and every Ford my dad has owned doesn't leave his livery until it has cracked 200,000 miles and we have yet to have any problems that aren't expected to pop up after that many miles, mainly small items around the drivers position in the car. The people I hear the most trash Fords use the argument, "I had a Ford once and it was the biggest piece of junk," and come to find out they had a twenty year old tempo, or some other similar econo-throwaway car from around the time late 70's or early 80's from when Ford pulled their heads out of their butts and instituted Quality Job One or what ever they called their awakening to the realization they had to build better vehicles. By the way, I think Toyota trucks hold the number one position for recalls the past few years with catastrophic frame and engine failures.

I was born into a Ford family so I'm extremely biased towards them, but what keeps me loyal is their innovation. Look at the V8s Ford continues to put out, in a couple years the OHC modular motors will be twenty year old technology. The GT the Shelby GT500, sure most of us will never own one, but their creation gives us tangible stuff to have wet dreams about. Relegating your Ford ownership to just the old stuff doesn't help them create newer cars guys like us will be fixing up and enjoying in thirty years.

I understand one of the biggest draws the little people containers have on people is the gas mileage. Sure it costs me a little more when I drive an F-150 or a late model mustang daily, but it sure is a hell of a lot more fun. Tree huggers, Al Gore-like politicians and the current crop of Washington numb nut, I'll stop there with the adjectives to be civil. Anyways they want to take away V8s, newer ones, older ones, all of them. I wouldn't want to own one of those little cars, it'd make me feel as those I'm rolling over preemptively and making liberal global warming doomsdayers think they can influence me.

One last thing, if you do drive an import, don't even put an American Flag sticker or any other patriotic items on it. I expect to see Obama stickers on them, but it burns me up as a Veteran to see my flag on imports.

  13. This sucks, I'm rather dissappointed by some of the daily drivers listed. I couldn't even finish reading all of the replies. Here I thought on this site I was in the company of other Ford fanatics. I'm not wanting or trying to insult those that don't have loyalty towards one car manufacturer. I just can't understand being into musclecars and driving hybrids or foreign cars. I understand that most of the imports are actually made on American soil, and a lot of "American Cars" are now imported. I'll just butt out and try to reburry my head in the sand.

  14. I always seem to cringe when I see or hear of mustangs catching the eye of the entertainment industry. How many times have you seen an old car survive a movie, or not heard of a dozen getting totaled to make a movie? I remember when gone in sixty seconds came out, my friends would ask me if I thought the movie was good. I'd explain that being an owner of an old mustang, watching a movie about a mustang getting stolen makes me nauseous, and not want to take mine out of the garage. I prefer mustangs not get much lime light. We here know they are special. Most of us have spent the time and money saving them from certain destruction, often times coming out upside down, for the love of the cars. It kills me to see mustangs become a trend for the people who view cars as accessories.

  15. I have two questions that have been nagging me for years, but always forget to ask.

    1. Will coupe glass work in a fastback?

I scored some 70 coupe glass and was wanting to put the bolt in, in my 69 fastback, my 69 and 70 door glass is stored at different garages and I don't like moving glass.

    2. Are FMX trannys worth anything?

I've heard that they are crap, and I've heard they are stout and can handle abuse. I have at least three sitting on a shelf in my garage, and have been hanging on to them in case by chance I run into a Ford guy that wants them. I hate scrapping rebuildable cores but don't want to wast precious space. On that note if anyone around Cincinnati wants to give me $50 there are at least three FMXs with your name on them.
