Does a 428 need a block plate?

Also called a separator plate. I'm guessing yes. I'm using an Ansen scatter shield.

In a factory installation yes it does, both for auto and manual. But, consult with Ansen to see what they say regarding their shield application. I know the adapter I used for my AOD did not need the separator plate. Bruce

Ansen is long out of business. I think the block plate is needed to hold the starter in alignment with the ring gear but I'm not sure.

It will be needed if the scatter shield has no provision for lining up the starter. I would use one then. Bruce
