Smoke Or No Smoke ??

Recommended Posts

Ok, heres the scoop. Its a 69 rust free mach with a 428CJ automatic. The damn thing starts & idles fine with NO blue smoke, then as soon as its warmed up, its as if a quart is getting dumped into the carb. Im talking it almost snuffs the poor girl out. It smokes terrible when warm. Would cracked rings do this? Could it be gaskets? I havent pulled the plugs to see if all or one are getting the oil. Any ideas. I was never really counting on owning a 428 car,so I havent done much research on them, I know that they would crack piston skirts, but any other things to watch out for? thanks all

Well first thing is see if its a head gasket or cracked heads produce white type smoke, Usually if you pull a valave cover or check the dip stick you will see brown and white foamy crap,If you definatly have blue smoke it could be the rings,Try to do a compression test or a leak down pressure check
