Distributor mechanical advance question

I feel kind of stupid asking this, but a while ago I swapped out my old points distributor for a new electronic msd one. My question is, should I have taken the mechanical advance weights from the old dizzy and put them in the msd? Can this even be done? (havent looked and checked) I bought the msd for a 351w which is what I have but that doesnt mean it has the correct advance does it?

nothing from your old dizzy will work in the new msd unit. you can change the weights and the springs with new dizzy. sometimes they are interchangeable between the current setup in the dizzy, for instance the 2 weights and the 2 springs may not necessarily be the same so by swapping those around you can change the advance around without having to buy different parts, you should also have some adjustment in the vacuum advance canister. if you do start changing things around make sure you keep a log of what changes you made
