  1. oh sory, it was such a noob answer i was embarassed.... apparently with the dash harness uninstalled and no ignition to be able to turn the box on, the coil wasn't sending spark, so i just held the small red wire, (which ran to the dash harness) to the battery pos and crossed the solenoid, and whalah running engine, or until i pulled the wire off the battery! hope that clarifies it -Jimmy
  2. called the msd tech line and i got it figured out!!!! woohoo running engine!
  3. does the msd box have to be recieving a signal from the dash harness to knowwhen to send spark to the distributer and or coil?
  4. if you want to make your own "spacer" to lift the speakers up, go to lowes and get a sheet of mdf (medium density fiberboard) and either use a router or a different saw to cut the circles for the speaker to drop into, but you need to coat the mdf in sealent or paint it cause mdf loves to soak up moisture... just an idea
  5. a nice pair of 6 1/2 has better woofer cone control... aka better sound quality dont expect over the top low rap bass, meant only for subwoofers , but components produce more than necessary midbass, and tweeters pick up the "highs" so it will sound correct and balanced, if you get a set try to make sure they come with crossovers, if you want to pursue the topic, i suggest giving caraudio.com/forum a shot there may be alot of extra crap there, but it is a treasure trove of knowledge... but if you dont want to bther with it, ill try to answer you questions to the best of my ability, -Jimmy
  6. i have been around car audio for awhile, and imo its better to go with a nice pair of 6 1/2's than a pair or 6x9's if you do choose the 6 1/2 route get a component set and mount the tweeters in the rear quarter panels and it turns out real nice but if you already have the 6x9's just make a speaker ring so the speaker is lifted off the rear deck so it fits and carpet it so it looks nice. if you have any questions on brands just ask! -Jimmy
  7. ive got a digital multi meter and i sed that to check it yesterday, i was not sure which setting to turn it to but after trying all ther settings, only one gave a reading when i put the pos and neg wires to the top of the coil. it was a 200 setting i think in ohms and it read 2.0 to 1.8 everytime regardless of whether the car was trying to crank was that the right setting? where should i be testing? i looked up how to test a coil and i have yet to get a reading when i put one lead in the center hole on the coil and one on either the pos or neg, any ideas? thanks for the help
  8. im trying to get my engine started, it turns over but wont start, ive got a msd 6al box, msd distributer(not sure which) with a number1 one on top 351 W 4v, carter afb, edelbrock performer, and installed a new coil today. my dash is not installed so im crossing the starter to get it to turn over used a screw to try to arc the electricity and didn't see any at the plug or dizzy no spark at the plug wires or from the coil to the top of the distributer does the msd box need a signal from the ignition? could it be turned off? could the dizzy be bad? after the new coil and no help, i think that the msd box isn't telling the coil to send signal cause it isn't plugged into the dash harness or to the ignition does that make any sense? any and all help is greatly appreciated
