69Mach1 M code 20 Report post Posted December 8, 2020 I am planning on converting my 69 Mach from the FMX to a 4-speed Toploader. It has a Hurst shifter. Will I need to modify the opening in the console or can I just add a rubber boot?
RPM 1,256 Report post Posted December 8, 2020 I'm doing the same swap, mine sure looks like it'll fit.
Kris 90 Report post Posted December 8, 2020 I think you have to change the top shift plate of the console. It just unbolts. 2 Alan_Mac and Grabber70Mach reacted to this
aslanefe 348 Report post Posted December 8, 2020 Yes the top plate is different for manual transmission to center the shifter in the plate. But why don't you just try what you have first and see the little offset of shifter is going to stick out. If it does, get a manual top plate for your console. In my situation I pieced the swap parts together and had trouble locating a proper fitting stick. So I cut and spliced a couple of sticks to get the proper offset and centered in the tunnel hole. aslanefe 348 Report post Posted December 8, 2020 This is for manual. this is for auto. You can see the difference for the shifter cutouts in the pictures. All you need is the correct plate for your transmission and I believe you can trim the manual plate to fit auto.

Spider69 16 Report post Posted January 3, 2021 Hi, I plan the same swap from fmx, but to a T5. Where could you find the pedals (clutch and brake)?
Mike65 509 Report post Posted January 3, 2021 Modern drive line sells the clutch pedal, but you can get it cheaper from CJ's. https://www.cjponyparts.com/modern-driveline-clutch-pedal-assembly-1969-1970/p/CP3/ Here is the power brake pedal with manual trans. https://www.cjponyparts.com/brake-pedal-assembly-manual-transmission-power-brakes-1967-1969/p/PDS/
