Help determining engine location relative to 428

Recommended Posts

When i installed my engine i used the Ron Morris mounts to move it back and towards the passenger side. Now I’m trying to mock up a ram air setup and would like to know how far the center of my engine/carb is from a stock 69 428CJ

I took the following measurements

Carb stud is approx 13.5” from the cowl - 20” from the inside of the passenger side of the engine compartment and 20.5” from the inside of the driver side of the engine compartment

Would someone with a 428 be willing to take the same measurements so i can compare how my engine/carb sit relative to the 428?

It would be interesting to know the measurements for a 351W too just for comparison sake.

Thanks,

I've got a 428 CJ shaker on my 351W. The scoop just clears the rear opening of the hood with the carb stud at 14-7/8" from the cowl face. Another quarter inch forward would center it. My motor is centered side to side for the shaker to be centered.

Edit: The reason my side to side numbers are different from yours is I measured side to side from the fender edge, not the inner fender.

The shaker has some adjustment with the 3 screws that mount the scoop to the midplate.

Good point bringing that up, and I do have mine as forward as possible.
