Midlife 814 Report post Posted November 7, 2020 Replace your starter solenoid. To test your existing one, when the starter doesn't disengage, whack the starter solenoid. If the starter stops, the solenoid is the problem.
dream car 12 Report post Posted November 7, 2020 Welcome Sal to 69stang When testing starter solenoid, its a good idea to disconnect the positive wire to the ignition coil, so the motor will only crank, and not start. 1 Mach1 Driver reacted to this
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted November 8, 2020 Welcome to the forum Sal. Word of advice, I've found it difficult to locate a quality solenoid these days. Stay far away from anything made in Red China. IMO, Motorcraft and Standard Motor Products Blue Streak seem like the only ones to buy.
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted November 8, 2020 Is it an auto trans or a manual trans car? I only ask because an auto trans starter in a manual trans will not disengage.
