RogerC 136 Report post Posted February 29, 2020 I got it on ebay aircraft parts a few years back, its a new Newton fuel filler with 2.25 hose receptacle on the back side. It's not vented but my fabbed tank has a vent port I'll be using. I've also got a couple of used versions that lock but no keys. Was going to take to a locksmith to see if I could get keys made. The locking ones have a place for the key under the tab so its not seen. Don't know why pic turned sideways.

RogerC 136 Report post Posted April 5, 2020 Making a mount for my coil to attach to the front of the left head. I have to chase one of the weld nuts, got some weld on one of the screws when welding the weld nuts on. Ground the end of the screw off but it still messed up the threads a little. I plan on using SS button head screws instead of the black oxide socket head screws. Also adding 1/2 inch spacers to space the bracket away from the head a little. 2 Grabber70Mach and RPM reacted to this

RogerC 136 Report post Posted April 13, 2020 Thanks The spacers are drill guides. I attached them with JB Weld. I didn't want to screw them up trying to weld them as they were kinda pricey so I figured they would be fine once the bracket was bolted to the head (7/16-14 bolts). Don't think they're going anywhere. I borrowed the Idea from And this 2 Grabber70Mach and stangman69 reacted to this

I'm trying to figure out whether I like the smooth aircraft style or a Le Mans style better. Leaning toward Le Mans. I'm trying to find something that is 6 or 8 bolts and NOT 12 bolt (too busy IMHO) and fits within the 4.5" flat circle on the stock '69 tail panel. I also want something that flips open sideways and not vertically down or at least gives me the option to try it either way - sideways open or flip down open. Scott Drake makes a pretty good looking Le Mans style flip open that I think would fit and would let me clock it sideways. FillerNeckSupply also sells an inline antisplash back valve (Perko brand...) that fits inside a 2" fuel line. I'm thinking of adapting that to my fuel neck / fuel fill cap mod. /nate PS: Sorry for the hijack. :) 1 RogerC reacted to this

RogerC 136 Report post Posted May 17, 2020 Received my LED taillights this week. Sandblasted the bottom flanges and found a bunch of pinholes in one. Started to weld them closed and shortly after decided it was a lost cause. Also decided to modify the housings by hacking off the back and moving the socket to the left side. Don't need that space anyhow with the LEDs in the lens. Plus gain back some trunk space. I need to do a little more cleanup, POR15, then paint. I'll do the other one after I finish cleaning this one. I have new gaskets and hardware also. I started working on the door caps for standard door panels. Removed the interior window weatherstrip, straightened the flange afterwards. Ordered new weatherstrip and lock knob grommets. Have to finish cleaning then paint them. I hadn't taken any pics of them. 1 Mike65 reacted to this
aslanefe 333 Report post Posted May 17, 2020 That is a good idea to cut it and make it smaller if using the led panel and gain more trunk space. You also moved the socket location to side, I keep bumping and poping my left socket off if I am not careful when I put something in the trunk.

Thanks guys I didn't plan to modify the light housings but when I bought the lights it occurred to me that all that space in the housing wouldn't be used and I remember knocking the light socket occasionally. So I took a little diversion from working on engine work. Moving the socket hole to the lower left puts it down and out of the way and without modifying the harness. RogerC 136 Report post Posted June 6, 2020 I assembled the taillights after painting the trim. Letting the paint fully cure before adding the body gasket. Primed and painted the underside of the door panel top trim. Not sure what color I want to paint the top side, probably black.
RogerC 136 Report post Posted June 13, 2020 So, went to put the body gaskets on the taillights. Notice the offset of the upper right lens screw and housing clearance bump out. Notice the body gasket has symmetrical bumps. Called NPD to return them. These are Daniel Carpenter brand (made in china). Anyone know who has good correct fitting gaskets?
RogerC 136 Report post Posted June 21, 2020 Well, got new body gaskets, this time Dynacorn brand off Ebay. They fit correctly but the quality is much less than the Daniel Carpenter chinese ones. Pits all over them, poor molding process. I'll probably hit it with some silicone when I install them.
RogerC 136 Report post Posted July 4, 2020 Back on the lower nose. I think I'm done with getting the shape right on the airdam part. Primed it to get a good look at the shape and think I'm there. Need to sand it down with finer grits and skim coat to get a smoother finish.
