alex 18 Report post Posted May 7, 2019 I pulled the non-functional hood scoop off the hood and found that the hood scoop was wearing a groove in the paint. Is there any insulation that was used from the factory to protect the paint? Is there an unobtrusive way to protect the paint?
Caseyrhe 650 Report post Posted May 7, 2019 Are you using the factory type bolt/screw for scoop? Do you have it tightened, scoop should not be moving. The flange on bolt should prevent that from happening? You could always use a stainless steel washer between bolt flange and hood sheet metal to raise the scoop a bit of the hood, but not sure how that will look
alex 18 Report post Posted May 7, 2019 Good question. I am using https://www.cjponyparts.com/69-70-boss-429-ram-air-hood-scoop-20-hardware-only-1969-1970/p/F1259/ . However now that you point it out, it appears that I should be using https://www.cjponyparts.com/amk-products-hood-scoop-mounting-hardware-kit-1969/p/HW1764/ which has a integrated washer/spacer. Can you or anyone confirm this?
Mike65 475 Report post Posted May 7, 2019 alex, the second link you posted are the hardware I used to mount a Mach-1 hood scoop to the hood of my 69 Coupe. https://www.cjponyparts.com/amk-products-hood-scoop-mounting-hardware-kit-1969/p/HW1764/
alex 18 Report post Posted May 7, 2019 Thanks Mike. Those bolts give a little gap between the hood and scoop it appears. I guess my hood incorrectly came with the bolts for the shaker scoop.
JayEstes 172 Report post Posted May 9, 2019 Be careful changing out the hood scoop bolts. My scoop is old enough that it is easy to strip them out. I had to repair one. Point is, the old fiberglass scoops are delicate at this stage. 1 Caseyrhe reacted to this
