Mountaineerfan 44 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 The title pretty much says it all! I have a 302 with the Autolite distributor. Got some fancy new plug wires to spruce up the engine a bit. I bought them at Summit here in Atlanta. The problem is the plug wires are for a male post-type distributor. I did not realize this until I got home. There is no. way. I am going to drive back through the city to return them! Traffic is a nightmare! So is there a replacement cap I can order with possibly an adapter to convert my female cap to a male cap? I do not have the money to straight out purchase a new distributor. Anyone done this? Thanks!
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 It's the 21st century with the convenience of the inter-net and on line shopping. Amazon, Rock Auto, PayPal or credit cards and any number of auto parts supplier will have your plug wires delivered to your door.
barnett468 418 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 well since you are willing to order a cap, why don't you just order the correct wires instead?
Mountaineerfan 44 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 I have a feeling that's what I'll end up doing, but I really like these red ones.... :)
unilec 57 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 Just a thought, as I have never heard of any adapters, maybe you could measure the inside of the female plugs and buy some brass rod and make your own.
Caseyrhe 650 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 You could try buying a cap and rotor for a 82 5.0 Stang. pretty sure rotor will fit on dist, but not sure on cap fitting and clamping
1969Fstback 58 Report post Posted April 19, 2019 They do make the adaptors. I switched my duraspark distributor to Pertronix a few years ago. Had the same issue. Duraspark was male and the pertronix was female. The adaptors were going to be as high or higher than a new wire set. I opted to just buy the new set. https://www.jegs.com/i/MSD-Ignition/121/ASY10124/10002/-
