Machspeed 219 Report post Posted February 27, 2019 One of the hood hinge "Captive Nuts" is slightly damaged on my car. See photo.... top nut. I could weld it back in but this just seems like a week and poorly executed method for attaching the hinges and I'm certain it will fail again. I'd like to just reinforce the area but the contour of supporting panel area does not make this easy. I've done a healthy web search but not finding much. Is there something out there that I may be missing? Thoughts? Thanks!!!
jmlay 80 Report post Posted February 28, 2019 As long as the hinges are in good shape & lubricated this should never be an issue. Problem is after all of these years these cars are not maintained to last 50+ years.
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted February 28, 2019 Weld it ,i weld them all with a good tack weld or tbey will loosen up . Keep the hinges lubed and it will not be a problem ,this is a weak point on all mustangs
Machspeed 219 Report post Posted February 28, 2019 Thanks fellas! I'll weld them up then. My OEM hinges are shot and have purchased some heavy duty hinges from West Coast Cougar. Suppose to be better than the OEM. Guess we'll see.
Mike65 475 Report post Posted March 1, 2019 I had to replace 2 of them that were missing on my 69 Coupe, I just welded them in. I purchased the captive nuts from CJPP. https://www.cjponyparts.com/68-70-hood-hinge-nuts-in-fender-aprons-6-hardware-only-1968-1970/p/F1482/
