Johns Summer of 69 14 Report post Posted January 7, 2019 I am hoping this weekend to install my CD player in my car. Looking for tips/tricks for how to secure it properly. I have the correct bezel for it, and have removed the metal original housing. Any pics (without the bezel) would be great to show your work. Thanks for everyone's help
RPM 1,278 Report post Posted January 7, 2019 John, I bought a repro bezel for the radio - heater so I could enlarge the radio slot area to fit the larger single din stereo. I fit the new stereo mounting insert to the dash. The most difficult part was trimming the narrow bezel around the opening. Once the bezel was trimmed to accept the unit frame, the frame that accepts the CD unit was secured to the lower dash with straps and screws. I'll post the best pics I have available. The Kenwood stereo I used has a removable face and doesn't look period correct. But with 2,500 watts, it doesn't sound period correct either :) Ah, even my best pic sucks. Vicfreg 801 Report post Posted January 8, 2019 I used a DIN 1 flatscreen which hangs below the opening a little, but looks cool. I am trying to find some pics from the back side, but not handy at this moment. I don't recall any real issue with the install in the dash. Used the supplied mounting fixture, and maybe a strap on the back of the head unit. I modified the radio knob to accept a grafted 1970 knob, made it match the rest. Kinda anal, but cool, I think. Vicfreg 801 Report post Posted January 8, 2019 Oh, this picture doesn't show the old knob. It is on my build thread.
Johns Summer of 69 14 Report post Posted January 8, 2019 Thanks. I know there is a "shelf" that the radio can sit on, but do I need something to replace the metal bracket from the original radio?
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted January 8, 2019 Where did you get the double din bezel at ?
MikeStang 247 Report post Posted January 8, 2019 It doesn't appear to be a Double Din bezel, Fear... He said he used a DEN 1 Flat screen so pretty sure that is a larger face radio but with a single Din body . I just did a console and put a 7" touch screen in mine LOL... mandates the classic auto air controls tho

If yours didn't, maybe check with a local car stereo shop?
Vicfreg 801 Report post Posted January 9, 2019 Single DIN chassis with 7" screen, similar to Mike's. Made by BOSS. Have Rockford Fosgate power amp and subwoofer ready to go in when I finish the car.
Vicfreg 801 Report post Posted January 9, 2019 I did not use the original bracket. There is an inner DIN 1 shell that mounts in the stock location. The new head unit inserts into that. Then just support it from the back and you are ready to rock. 1 1 Johns Summer of 69 and RPM reacted to this

Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted January 10, 2019 I went a little on the cheap side. I’d heard bad things about some of the aftermarket bezels, so I bought an original that had seen better days and made my own. Ended up cutting out the sides and epoxying some 16 gauge on the outside. Works well, fits, and cost me a lot less than the aftermarket stuff. 1 1 mwye0627 and Johns Summer of 69 reacted to this

I have seen one supposed aftermarket single DIN bezel that looked like nothing more than Vacuum Formed ABS.. I didn't like it at all, and especially not for the money they wanted... You have come up with the best solution I have seen yet!!!
