Mounting of modern single DIN radio

Recommended Posts

John, I bought a repro bezel for the radio - heater so I could enlarge the radio slot area to fit the larger single din stereo. I fit the new stereo mounting insert to the dash. The most difficult part was trimming the narrow bezel around the opening. Once the bezel was trimmed to accept the unit frame, the frame that accepts the CD unit was secured to the lower dash with straps and screws. I'll post the best pics I have available.

The Kenwood stereo I used has a removable face and doesn't look period correct. But with 2,500 watts, it doesn't sound period correct either :)

Ah, even my best pic sucks. 20190107_090704.thumb.png.e21da5fa9c1f151eb0d5102f2cdef4ae.png1719553541_stereocddash.thumb.jpg.73c51fb7c91676c082be5164ca0ce595.jpg

I used a DIN 1 flatscreen which hangs below the opening a little, but looks cool.   I am trying to find some pics from the back side, but not handy at this moment.  I don't recall any real issue with the install in the dash.   Used the supplied mounting fixture, and maybe a strap on the back of the head unit.

I modified the radio knob to accept a grafted 1970 knob, made it match the rest.   Kinda anal, but cool, I think.

It doesn't appear to be a Double Din bezel, Fear... He said he used a DEN 1 Flat screen so pretty sure that is a larger face radio but with a single Din body .

I just did a console and put a 7" touch screen in mine LOL... mandates the classic auto air controls tho

Thanks. I know there is a "shelf" that the radio can sit on, but do I need something to replace the metal bracket from the original radio?

Pretty sure my new stereo came with everything I needed. If yours didn't, maybe check with a local car stereo shop?

So it's a  single  din with a  flip up screen  ?

I went a little on the cheap side.  I’d heard bad things about some of the aftermarket bezels, so I bought an original that had seen better days and made my own.  Ended up cutting out the sides and epoxying some 16 gauge on the outside.  Works well, fits, and cost me a lot less than the aftermarket stuff.

I have been trying to think of a good solution to install a single DIN radio. Your solution looks like exactly what I need!!!    I have seen one supposed aftermarket single DIN bezel that looked like nothing more than Vacuum Formed ABS..  I didn't like it at all, and especially not for the money they wanted...

You have come up with the best solution I have seen yet!!!
