I'm on a fixed income though. Do you have a dash for sale? How much for the dash? With A/C cutouts? So you had bought an original dash with a/c cutouts? I doubt I could afford it. Unless it was used. Just need 2500 more small parts. LOL My lower cowl was not salvageable. I also need to replace the footwell or lower part of the firewall over torque boxes, passenger side torque box and the inner passenger kickboard/vent area below the A-Pillar. With all that needed to be done, it just made sense to replace the cowl instead of repairing it. I was able to salvage the original outer cowl with its date stamp. I should give credit to my buddy John who has done this work before, and without his help and experience, I would not have tackled it by myself. It shows me how many parts I need that I don't have for the cockpit! I wonder where I would get all those. Some one mentioned having a donar car. I doubt I could ever find one that was cheap enough to buy for just parts. Then you would be stuck with all old parts. Some you can restore just with blasting and new paint I guess. Which is what I would need, like dash brackets that hold things together. On the lower cowl. Does my 70 need to look like yours does? Our cars are both 70 m codes right? Rich Ackermann 174 Report post Posted July 3, 2019 Moving on with replacing the footboard or lower part of the firewall, top of the driver side torque box, and floor pan. I am relieved that the rockers are great shape. Decided not to replace the floors under the rear seat as they are also in great shape, so I just cut the full floor off at the top of the riser. Rich Ackermann 174 Report post Posted November 18, 2019 It's been awhile since I updated the project forum. Been making good progress, so here goes... Modified the console since I plan on adding Shelby style console mounted Oil and alt gauges and power windows. Also cut the back off the rear console ash tray and glued a dual 12 volt USB port inside. Getting down to business.... Chassis reinforcement plans... One piece seat support pan, Shock tower and cross member plates, cowl to export brace. Last pic show the TinMan sub-frame connectors in place. I welded plates on each connector as I plan to bolt them thru the floor pan and back edge of the one piece seat support pan. Hoping it adds some more chassis rigidity. Will it? Yes I chose "Caution Orange" instead of black for the floors. My thinking is I will lightly cover it again with the body color Calypso Coral and orange would be easier than covering black. Sure is bright! Looks more like that late sixties GM Hugger Orange. Rich Ackermann 174 Report post Posted November 18, 2019 Tackled to part that scared me more than anything I done so far... Fitting the rear quarter panel skins. Decided to use the Dyancorn panel as is, (I did trim the front top edge under the quarter window) and trim the original quarter to meet it. I bought a HFT air flange tool and flanged the original quarter edge. You can see the flanged edge in the previous picture. Fit the panel to the flanged edge and screwed the panel down all the way around.... to the door jamb, wheel well lip, drop down, rear tail panel. The panel laid nice and flush into the flange on top. I checked the fit against the end caps. So far so good... what relief. newstang 388 Report post Posted December 1, 2019 I did the one piece seat platform in my convertible, it actually raised the seats about 2" so no i hit my head on the way in and had to install a tilt wheel to be able to get in and out.
