Padrino 5 Report post Posted October 14, 2018 Hi, today I noticed on my 69 Mach that the left rear wheel is closer to the front of the well than the right side. There’s about an inch difference between the two sides. Is this normal?
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted October 14, 2018 No, sounds like the rear end shifted. 1 RPM reacted to this
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted October 14, 2018 Mine measures 14.75"/15" forward fender edge to center of axle shaft. Both sides. Brian
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted October 15, 2018 Was the rear quarter sheet metal replaced?
unilec 57 Report post Posted October 15, 2018 Could also be an issue with the leaf springs, measure from the back spring bolt to the center of the axle on both sides and see if there is a difference.
Vicfreg 771 Report post Posted October 15, 2018 Not normal. Jack the car up to get both wheels off of the ground and see if anything moves. The front spring mounting points are fixed, and cannot move...check the rear spring shackles to see if there is anything obvious. Othewise you may be looking at some offset in the frame somewhere. Padrino 5 Report post Posted October 15, 2018 Thanks all. I think I might have done it when messing around with the line lock.
shelbyshelby 52 Report post Posted October 17, 2018 I’ve noticed the wheels arent really centered in my 69’s rear wheel wells, both sides. New leaf springs, u-bolts and tie bolts, original 9”. I’ve looked online a bunch and notice some 69’s are similar to mine and some seem to be better centered but it’s tough to get the right pictures to compare. Anyhow, grendi just posted a pic of his on his window trim post. His looks to be like mine. I’m not sure if this is designed that way or a problem exists. Here’s grendi’s pic of his, hope you are ok with TBUT of the pics grendi, to further the hobby. With yours being off on one side, makes me think yours may have a problem. Maybe one side is in the wrong spring perch hole.
det0326 179 Report post Posted October 17, 2018 Leaf springs with a lot of arch will be closer to the front of wheel well. As the spring is compressed it will get closer to the rear of the wheel well. That is the design of the leaf spring .
Padrino 5 Report post Posted November 9, 2018 Ok, so found out my axle shifted somehow. Probably when using the line lock. That’s fixed and I also raised the rear a bit for more clearance. Thanks everyone!
