Difference in console - auto vs manual

Looking at converting auto to manual.  

What is the difference in the surround section - smaller/larger - can it be modified or do I need to buy a new section?

The auto insert is not as deep, you will have a space between shifter boot.  You can use and don't have to trim it.   If you use a m/t on an auto you would have to trim it

the insert is the only difference and you can buy those. i might even have one i would sell.

As said the difference is in the depth of the console insert. You can leave it as is and run it. If the gap bother you, you can also make a shim that would move the boot up to fill the gap

Thanks guys.  Barnett thanks for the offer. I’ll see whether the space bothers me and make a decision after that.

I reinstalled my auto trans console after converting to a 4sp.  To me it fits and looks fine without any modifications.  Only noticeable to somebody that knows what to look for.
