Shep69 149 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 I purchased a 100 amp 1 wire alternator for my 302 that’s in my 56 F100. The instructions just say to connect the alternator straight to the battery or solinoid. Nothing is mentioned about a inline fuse or circuit breaker so I’m just asking for any advice. Should I put one in or not. Thanks Mark
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 Mark, everything I've read on it says to use a fuse. I have an 80 amp in mine. 1 Shep69 reacted to this
unilec 57 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 Instead of a fuse use a circuit breaker and just because its a 100amp alternator does not mean you need a 100amp breaker, a 90amp would be best. 1 Shep69 reacted to this
Shep69 149 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 Thanks for the replies. Yeah I thought it would be best to put a fuse or circuit breaker.
Viperpete 36 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 I have a 1 wire also. I got it from NPD. I really should install a fuse as well. DO you guys use the big fuses like for an aftermarket amp or something?
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 My fuse and wire are good size. Don't know the wire gauge as all the stuff used I bought came together, I bought used but unopened. The fuse cover is off in the pic. 1 Shep69 reacted to this
Viperpete 36 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 Wire looks awfully small to me honestly.I wouldn't want to run anything less than 6 gauge. When I swap the motor and do all the electronics i'll be using 2 gauge.
