69volunteer 84 Report post Posted March 5, 2018 How tight should the pilot bushing be on the input shaft? My buddy says it should slip on and off by hand. I have three different ones and they all measure out the same ID but I have to lightly tap them on and off when testing fit on the input shaft before I insert into crank. Engine and trans are out of the car.
fvike 173 Report post Posted March 6, 2018 Perhaps it could slide in if left in the freezer overnight first. But it should by no means be loose. I tapped mine in.
barnett468 418 Report post Posted March 6, 2018 yes, it should easily slip onto the shaft. there should be around .002" clearance. they should fit properly right out of the box but who knows these days with the many crappy parts that are being made. you should also smear a tiny bit of lithium grease inside the bushing before installing the trans and on the trans shaft and splines. 1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted March 6, 2018 There are also full roller bearings available instead of the bushing. Maybe you'll have better luck with that. I've been using this one with good luck. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-7600-a/overview/

Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted March 7, 2018 The pilot and throw out bearings should slide easily right into place. The pilot will require a bit of light tapping as it is a snug fit. On the trans snout they should move without effort. Brian
