ralt962 11 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 I know, likely a silly question. But on a non fold down car, is there any type of panel behind the rear seat? It looks like there is a place to attach one but but I can find now parts that indicate a panel or something goes in that spot.
Mach1 Driver 603 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 Mine doesn't fold down either (wish it did), and no there isn't a panel. Some tests show that adding a panel will stiffen the car up by a good percentage- I've forgotten the number, but something on the order of 15-20% I think 1 ralt962 reacted to this
Vicfreg 800 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 You can get them in the cardboard material or steel from the normal vendors. The convertibles have extra stiffening members back there from the factory. I am going to install one of these and cover it with DynaMat..... https://www.npdlink.com/store/products/mustang_divider_rear_seat_and_trunk_steel-152152-2790.html
Rsanter 158 Report post Posted October 24, 2017 On a non fold down fastback there is a fiberboard package tray that goes behind the back seat. This leaves you with a deeper trunk for storage 1 ralt962 reacted to this

LiLMike 42 Report post Posted October 25, 2017 This is what I did with mine. Just rolled 1/8" sheet metal and used a glove box lock for the door.
Vicfreg 800 Report post Posted October 26, 2017 Nice job, thanks for the pics...
ralt962 11 Report post Posted October 26, 2017 Thanks all very helpful. It looks like the steel is available, but was designed for a coupe. These pictures and information seems like it will fit the sports roof. I like the little trap door shown in the pictures.
Mike65 509 Report post Posted October 29, 2017 I put one in my Coupe. 1 69 Cruzin reacted to this
ralt962 11 Report post Posted November 6, 2017 Looks great. I tried buying the coupe sheet metal but it was much too large for the sports roof. I can likely use a piece of sheet metal to fab one like you have here.
RPM 1,258 Report post Posted November 6, 2017 I started with a cardboard template, then made a piece from 5052 aluminium.

ralt962 11 Report post Posted November 9, 2017 Very nice fab work. I like the roll bar also!
RPM 1,258 Report post Posted November 9, 2017 Thank you. The roll bar was one of many "while I'm at its ". I added convertible inner rockers and one piece seat riser for chassis rigidity, so the roll bar probably wasn't needed, but I like the looks of it.
