Reaper69 1 Report post Posted October 21, 2017 HI guys looking for advice. I have a '79 Ltd 351w that is going in my 1969 fastback. It currently has a rear sump oil pan. I checked, it won't work lol. I know I need a front sump pan, but the one I have now has the dipstick in the pan. I can't seem to find a front sump with dipstick in the pan. Other options? Where else is the dipstick if not in the pan? Thanks.
det0326 179 Report post Posted October 21, 2017 timing chain cover, for the front sumps. Your timing chain cover probably has the boss for the hole and can be drilled if you want or just use a mustang cover.
Reaper69 1 Report post Posted October 21, 2017 Ahhh. Makes sense. Just looked, yep could drill it in or get a new one... guess it's time to tear that down:) thanks det0326
Vicfreg 771 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 I used a old style timing cover which has the passenger side dipstick hole in it. Also, if you are running a manual trans, the late model block may not have the boss to mount your Z-Bar linkage. The '79s are very low horsepower engines, so you may want to a head and cam upgrade. Reaper69 1 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 This engine actually had been in my '61 f100 already. Decent cam, ignition, intake and carb. Heads smaller combuston chamber, but not alum. Eventually I'll rebuild to a 393 stroker, but $ going to paint next. No Zbar link. I have a new t5 I just put behind it. Modern driveline with hyd. Throw out master/slave. Vicfreg 771 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 Excellent, nice setup. I just did a 393 stroker . So any questions, give a holler. Check out my project site - "1970 Convertible Restoration"
Reaper69 1 Report post Posted October 23, 2017 Nice! Will do. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get into it
