Raven R code 281 Report post Posted September 15, 2017 In reading about what gets painted what color, semi gloss is always mentioned. What isn't mentioned is what people have been using. I'm only assuming here (please correct if necessary) the blower motor in the Firewall is SGB ......not sure about the bracket. I'm also thinking the radiator is SGB but could be glossy too. Also, is the brake booster and master cylinder (painted together) SGB or a satin? Last, the pullys and harmonic balancer......SGB or satin (like the engine compartment paint)? Raven R code 281 Report post Posted September 18, 2017 Turns out duplicolor makes a Ford Semi-Gloss black rattle can(DE1635)!
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted September 18, 2017 That is simply engine enamel for late model Ford engine blocks. Not for the firewall, etc. on these Mustangs I think everybody has their own idea of the correct black and sheen in these engine compartments.
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted September 19, 2017 Yeah, def not for the Firewall....or engine compartment. The SGB is for the blower motor and engine pulleys.
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted September 19, 2017 Engine enamel sprays with a very heavy coat. It doesn't provide the best results on smooth surfaces. I don't use engine enamel on pulleys, any accessory brackets, or on an inner fender panels. Duplicolor no longer has a Satin Black and their semi gloss seems to have a little to much sheen. Rustoleum still has a satin black. It covers better than Duplicolor but takes much longer to dry. When I can wait for the longer drying time I use Rustoleum paints. Raven R code 281 Report post Posted September 19, 2017 Are the pulleys and engine accessories supposed to be satin black?
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted September 20, 2017 I know they are not gloss black. But the exact sheen, I don't know. Satin black is what I use.
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted September 20, 2017 I went with the Ford Semi-Gloss Black for the blower motor, pulleys, harmonic balancer, the skinny alternator bracket, distributor hold down, coil bracket, radiator, master cylinder and power booster. The duplicolor rattle can has ceramic and seems very durable and hi temp(500°).
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted September 20, 2017 Probably okay, but next time try to use a lacquer type paint on the radiator. The lacquer will not affect the heat transfer rate much, if any. 1 Raven R code reacted to this
