C4 won't go from P to R, only N to R

My C4 is starting to behave a little annoying. It won't go from Park to Reverse, though I have no problem going from Neutral to Reverse.

Thoughts?

Yeah my son's 66 mustang c4 , had similar problem. linkage was hitting a loose cable. I cleared it, problem solved.

I'm trying to adjust the linkage but can't seem to make it better. How much/little do I need to adjust? Are we talking 1-2mm?

First place to look at is the detent plate and has the cable gone slack when button pushed. now check the slots on the plate for burrs or rounded corners.

Next are the bushings on the lower linkage for wear and finally adjustment on link

There is a cable that runs up the shifter shaft that does not have any adjustments. It makes a sharp 90 degree turn at the top under the "T" handle and this is usually where the problem with the cable is at. If the cable stretches, when you press the button on the handle it does not lift the detent high enough at the bottom of the shifter shaft to clear the P to R detent. You can use an allen screw to remove the "T" handle and look at the cable. You can also manually activate the cable to see if you can get to operate correctly. If so you need a new shifter shaft.
