what was your thoughts when you first saw your Mustang

Recommended Posts

After i sold my springtime yellow 69 mach 1,i never really thought about getting another one ,untill i saw an old 69 at a friends shop .It had been painted several times ,the paint was peeling and it had black ,brown and grey primer all over it ,the front fenders were beat and the hood ,motor ,transmission and all the suspension was gone, but the body was in great shape. I always wanted to build a Shelby replica ,and i mentioned it to my friend .He told me ,if i would sand blast a couple of cars for him it was mine.Didnt even have to think about it .

i loaded up the first two cars belonging to my friend an took them to my shop.I went back for the 69 and put a rear end and front dolly under it so it would roll and loaded it on the trailer.

When i got it to the shop i started to notice things ,the engine compartment painted red,the black out painted along the rockers...yep,it was my second 69 i sold back around 1980 ,checked the vin and confirmed it.Digging through the car i found one of my registrasion papers ,it will never be sold again without some sort of force. I just wish i would have taken a pic the day i brought it back home.

Saw that video about a year ago.  I'm not a country fan but I like the video.  Maybe the subject matter helps.

I didn't think much when I saw my first Mustang (the one I still own today).  My Grandfather had like 6 of them, 1965 Convertible, 1966 Coupe, 1970 Coupe, 1969 Grande(my Car), 1985 GT, and honestly can't remember the last one.  I almost think he had 2 convertibles.  I was probably 7 years old at the time.  But I cruised around with him for a month in those cars that summer and was hooked from that point on.  He also had a 1970 3/4 ton - wouldn't mind getting one of those either.  Add to the list a 57 t-bird, a couple Galaxies, 2 280zs (I know not ford),  a Beatle (super bug), a mid 70's Lincoln, a Corvair, a 1950's Chevy truck rusted out in the creek, 3 John Deere's, and what ever was there he was in the middle of flipping and you get an idea of what pulling up to the farm looked like.   Good thing there was acreage.

Me and a buddy were driving around looking for a 69 that I could buy. We checked out the first one we came across and I thought that I'd really like to buy it. Asked the young lady if she thought about selling it, and she sold it to me.

I live in Australia and I used a local Mustang importer to find a car and import it for me, I told him I wanted an old faded unmolested car, I did'nt care about the mechanical condition I just wanted a good body and that is what he got for me. When I first looked at it I saw some rust in one floor pan and some around the gas tank and I was a little disappointed but I soon realised how good it was and now I am so thankful that I was lucky enough to get one of the best 69 bodies you will ever find.

Can't believe the condition of that  quarter panel Jet! Both of mine needed much work. And that is how you buy a car that is thousands of miles away so you don't end up buying 12 gallons of Bondo. Are you gonna paint it silver jade again? I love that color.

When my brother first got his, there was no doubt in my mind, I had to have the same. Got my first when I was 15, my mom took me to buy it. Dad about crapped when he saw it, called it a can of worms. It was my pride and joy!! My current Mach, worked on the guy for 2 years before he sold it to me, I plan to be buried in it....Before and after of 1st Mach and current Mach

When I arrived at the shipping terminal it was pretty much what I expected. Starting it was another thing. I took a new battery and some fuel but it turned out to have an alarm with engine disabler. Finally just as I was about to get a tow truck it was the very helpful dock worker who found the remote button on the key chain and suggested pressing it. What a relief.

It looked every bit as good as I expected. Driving it home was a little different. Many years since I had driven an old school car. Four wheel drums are pretty scary. Got pulled over by the Police half way home. Soon as he realised I had a temporary rego he was only interested in the car and escorted me most of the way home. Turned out to be a pretty nice guy.

A week later I fitted power front discs. Best thing ever.

My first car was a 66 Mustang .My second was a 69 Cj .The one i have now is my second 69 Mach 1 that i sold and got back , my third 69 is also a CJ ,i still have it and it will also be a shelby replica . I have always had a Mustang in all years , but the 69s are my favorite . I bought my second  69 CJ from a class mate ,actually traded a very clean original 35 Ford pick up for it ...yes i have also always had a 35 Ford pick up haha. He drove the 69  last two years of high school when he bored the motor 40 over and through a rod through the block .It sat for a few months when i offered the trade and he went for it .I dropped a built 351 in it and drove it a couple of years and then decided to restore it .the shop was broken into and the 428 block ,rods and crank i had for it  was stolen ,they missed the heads and the top loader though .I kind of lost track of it for several years as it was stored at a cousins shop and i almost forgot about it ,but it is here now and here it will stay .

And i got the same response from my mom and dad when i brouight the first CJ home ...what do you want that piece of junk for ...its paint is peeling ,it needs interior , cant you find something better ? Some people just dont get it .

My dad never drove or rode in my first Mach, mom did though. My dad came out to the street races one Friday night....after that his perspective on my car changed dramatically. I then became the family mechanic.

I acquired my current 69 Coupe back in 2001 as a rolling shell that was being stripped for parts so there was not much left. The car had a very poor dark blue paint job that was peeling, the only things left on the shell were the front & rear suspension, 4 mismatched tires, trunk lid, dash board, & 1 fender. When I saw it I figured it is a dime a dozen 302 Coupe so I did not have to worry about modifying a more valuable car. I just didn't think it would take as long as it did, but life & family get in the way sometimes.

My first 1969 Mustang was a Grande with a 351 , FMX trans and a 9 inch  3.00:1 open diff.

I bought that car in March of 1973.   It was a great car that got me through my High School years before I turned it into a Drag Race car. First competing in K Stock/Automatic.  I won several races in that configuration before I switched to Super Stock...

In 1976, I bought a 1969 Mustang Sportsroof with a 302, C4 trans and 8 inch 3.00:1 open diff.   That car became a parts car for future projects for my brother.

Now I have another 1969 Coupe. I was a decent car when I first seen it...   Typical rust for a Kansas car.   It was built and Sold in southern California, shipped to Kansas in the early 1980's. It was brought to Michigan in 1987, but was never driven again. As far as I know it was garaged for the most part...   It needed new quarter skins and outer wheelhouses. Both doors had the typical rust in the lower corners. I replaced the front floorboards, the driver side being worse than the passenger side, but the rear floorboards were great.  All frame rails and torque boxes were just fine...

Now I just have to get healthy enough to finish everything!!!

I'll get there soon!!!
