Hey All,

So I just rewired my 70 coupe with american autowire and I am having an issue with the front parking/blinker lights not functioning. There is power going to both lights (8 /- volts), new bulbs that function but yet the lights don't turn on and blinkers don't work. What am I missing? I also tested the light itself using the battery and found that it all functioned correctly, except when connected to the front light wiring harness.

Go to "How To", open "A REAL Schematic", and download page 3 of my schematic.

It is for a 69, not a 70 and I understand there is a change involving the front turn signals and the side marker lights. Apparently the side marker lights are not grounded and tied into the turn signal lights. I've read that normal operation for a 70 is for the turn signal and the marker lights to flash alternately depending on weather the headlights are on. I don't have a 70 or the wire diagram for one so I can't be certain how this was done. The 69 schematic should still give you the basics of what is happening and help you along. Hope it helps.

Thank you Mach1 Driver! I check fhe grounds and the fuses and they seem good. Apparently American autowire doesn't have a relay for the headlights, so...im going to give their support line and see what they suggest. I appreciate your help

So spoke to American autowire's very helpful tech support. Turns out I have a bad turn signal switch, so supposedly when I replace the turn signal switch all the lights should operate correctly

That "could be" the problem, but its very easy for them to say so. Do you have a voltmeter? If so check to see if you get 12v at each corner with the turn signals on. It won't blink unless the bulbs are connected and I have no idea the state of your car. If you have voltage and you can turn it on and off with the directional signal lever, then its not the turn signal switch. More than likely its miss-wired. Did they supply new marker lights? I have heard that some suppliers give you 69 marker lights that are grounded instead of the 70 markers that wire back into the system. The 70 is a difficult system to diagnose.

I've been loosing my mind over this and I hate that AAW is closes at 5pm EST and is closed on weekends as how are working people suppose dot get support. Anyways, I tried replacing the turn signal switch and still no luck; I've checked the main lighting harness with it unplugged from the turn signal switch and tried jumping the wires and found that the blinkers work (when jumped) but I can't get the hazards to work. I haven't tested the voltage, but using a test light, I find that the blinkers work at the harness when its not connected to the turn signal switch, which leads me to believe that I must have wired the turn signal switch wrong, even thought I wired it the way AAW instructed. I am going to double check all the wires and make sure everything is wired correctly. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 69/70 turn signal switch?

Also, the marker lights are 69 style in that the marker lights are individually grounded.

Barn door and the horse kinda thing from me, but these types of issues and me not being a 'lectrician were some of the main reasons I had MidLife refurbish my Henry Ford oe harness. I wish you luck.

I thought it reasonable to assume  that it was a miss-wire and not the turn signal switch. I find it hard to believe that you would undertake such a project without a wire diagram.

Lets see... you have a 70 with an AAW harness using 69 marker lights. I'm not sure that a Ford diagram will help you. Since your harness is AAW it is bound to be different. I've got a 69 diagram from the factory manual I could scan and email you. It would be two 11x17 pages, I think I can scan something that big. That's just for the exterior lights, BUT the attached Schematic shows how everything works without all the plugs and wires, and is a s**tload easier to read.

Send me a private message if you still want the scans with your email address.

I love these kinds of problems, as they keep me busy and flush with pocket change!  *G* Unfortunately, the PO using an aftermarket wiring kit which disables most of what I can do to help out.

As with others, I wish I could help.  If it was a factory wire system, we could figure it out easily. But with AAW, you need a AAW specialist. It is a shame they will not help you out.  Can you get schematics of the AAW system?   Maybe we can point you in the right direction if you have them?
