fvike 173 Report post Posted June 19, 2017 The two grommets are supposedly for the holes in the firewall for the heater hoses. They don't fit very well, and their I.D. is smaller then the hose O.D; which is the correct red stripe hose. Does anyone know of they are supposed to be used? If so, from which direction? Or is my hose wrong?
Ridge Runner 1,112 Report post Posted June 19, 2017 I have had 69s that did not have the grommets and some that did
lanky 44 Report post Posted June 19, 2017 Mine had goo around the hoses... 1 RPM reacted to this
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 I agree with Ridge and Lanky. The 70's may have had grommets (I don't know) but my '69 had only caulk (like 3Mstrip caulk)
stangnet33 88 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 The same with mine, the grommets would look nicer though
Ridge Runner 1,112 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 I think firewalls that had the mushroomed opening did not have the grommet, the hose fits to tight for it
Mike65 475 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 I had 1 70 & this is my 2nd 69 & I do not remember any grommets in the heater hos holes in any of the 3 cars.
JD08 42 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 Doesn't the heater core protrude through the firewall? Those grommets would go on the inlet and outlet of the heater core.
moodster 55 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 My firewall looked exactly the same. I believe Ridge Runner is correct - if you have the mushroomed punch outs then you don't use the grommets. Once you slide the heater hose through the firewall, you'll see that the tolerance is pretty good. Oh and the heater core does not protrude through the firewall - or at least it didn't on mine... maybe AC cars it does? david
Mike65 475 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 All 3 of the 69/70 Mustang's I have owned that were non-A/C cars the heater core did not come through the firewall.
Ridge Runner 1,112 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 My 70 had grommets ,the holes are the flat punch outs

det0326 179 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 Yes the heater core nipples protruding through the firewall is an A/C thing.
