Can I cut out the Regulator wires?

Recommended Posts

I'm running a 1 wire Alternator and I'm trying to clean up the engine compartment.

The Regulator wires (Orange, Yellow, Green/Red and a Yellow Pigtail) are just hanging there.

I would like to cut them off and wrap them with electric tape.

Is that OK to do?

I understand what you mean but I'm tired of looking at them hanging there. There is really no way to hide them unless I cut them out.

I don't believe there would be a problem doing so, but would like to get the OK first.

Using a wiring terminal pick (or very small flat blade screwdriver), you can release the tabs holding the terminals in the connector.   Wrap the terminals with electrical tape then wrap the wires to the sides of the harness ... done but can still be reversed.

Why would you keep a fake regulator if you're trying to clean up the engine compartment?

This gets my vote. The Lisle tool is less than a case of beer.

If I gut a regulator and plug in the wires will it have an adverse reaction in the wiring system

It would be no different than the wires along since there's nothing that they are connected to.  But if you looking in the engine bay it would look totally stock with the regulator and the wires.

It really depends on the look you want.

That's the tool I use as well.  Once in a while it doesn't work.  But mostly it works fine.  The cylindrical shaped prongs work good on weather pack type connectors.
