External Trans Cooler Line Routing Question

Recommended Posts

I have a 408 Cleveland with an AOD trans I'm going to run in series with a brass Big Block Radiator and an external 30000 GVW cooler.

Do I take the supply line from the trans and go first to the external cooler, then in & out of the radiator returning to the return end of the trans?

Does it matter which port I first start with on the Radiator?

Thank you!

Where you are located matters.

if you are in a warmer climate or won't drive the car in the winter then you don't have to go through the radiator at all, and should not.

the only reason to go through the radiator as well as an external cooler is so the engine/trans warm up faster in the winter

Hot oil from the transmission goes through the radiator, then the cooler, then returns. This is the standard method used by every OEM on vehicles with an extra cooler and also how the instructions say to do on all the aftermarket add-on coolers. (That have instructions.) Since most guys as a matter of course don't need no steenking instructions this isn't commonly known.
