Mach 1 bucket seats

Recommended Posts

The driver side seat in my 69 Mach 1 is for a 70. The seat back release lever is down low next the the hinge. Is it possible to convert the 70 seat to a 69 by relocating the release lever up to the middle area of the seat back? I won't be home for another couple of months otherwise I'd take it apart and see for myself. I know I haven't seen parts for that release mechanism available....only the frames and tracks for the most part.

not easy to switch the latch location.

It's not too difficult if you have donor '69 low-backs to steal the parts from and use as a reference for hole sizes & locations.   I did it back in the 80's.

no, however, getting the 69 parts is the biggest problem.

Just curious if you made any progress on your seat. I have 2 1970 seats that I'd like to convert to 69's if possible, within reason.

I finally had a chance to remove the cover on one of the 70 seats. The seat back frame wasn't drilled to mount the lever for a 69. I assumed it would be. It could probably be done though. The lower part of the mechanism for a 69 hinges on a bolt and nut that can be taken off easily. The 70 has a pin that would have to be cut out. I'm sure the conversion can be done but I also found a big crack in one of my frames so I ended up just getting 69 seats instead and being done with it.
