Mach 1 Driving Light Repair

Recommended Posts

Posting another minor project from my 1970 build.   I obtained a set of fog (driving) lamps for a 1970 Mach 1.  In spite of using a good bit of the old PB Blaster penetrating oil, one of the small studs broke off.

So, a few quick steps to fix it:

  • Sized up the stud and drilled it out from the back side
  • It was about the size as a standard machine screw, so drilled it out a little more to the proper size, and ran a tap through the hole
  • Dressed up the area with a abrasive wheel
  • Used a Stainless Steel machine screw, and screwed it down tight
  • Since the screw head is in the area where the gasket is, I just ground it down a little to flatten it out
  • Finished product looks nearly the same as the other, original sidepost-45109-0-20497800-1484708710.jpgpost-45109-0-83986500-1484708747.jpgpost-45109-0-25362600-1484708762.jpgpost-45109-0-62855600-1484708793.jpgpost-45109-0-90360500-1484708809.jpgpost-45109-0-30941500-1484708840.jpgpost-45109-0-73993300-1484708862.jpgpost-45109-0-37418300-1484708888.jpgpost-45109-0-55837300-1484708903.jpg
