Max Power 74 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 Sure it would work, not sure why you would want to do that though. The C4 is a lightweight tough little tranny with a host of aftermarket parts available, the FMX is a 50s era design that is heavy and with almost no aftermarket support. Most people convert from FMXs to C4s or overdrives. It took me months to even find a replacement pan for my FMX on ebay. 1 GT69 reacted to this
machm1970 180 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 Unless you're getting the FMX for free go with a C4 or AOD. I just swapped my C4 for an AOD and love it. Matt 1 GT69 reacted to this
Ridge Runner 1,153 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 I had an FMX in two Mach 1s and i loved them ,a shift kit is as simple as adding a shim .I had both rebuilt from a local shop that does a lot of racing and never had a problem . 2 LindenBruce and GT69 reacted to this

1969_Mach1 334 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 In stock form the FMX is a lot stronger than a C4. I've seen FMX transmissions take a beating and never have any issues. 1 GT69 reacted to this
GT69 2 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 the car came with a 3 speed top loader but want to go auto. got the FMX cheap and C4s are hard to get over here. had not considered AOD. IS IT A STRAIGHT FORWARD SWAP ?
1969_Mach1 334 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 Don't know what's required for the AOD swap. But I do know in stock original form they are not very good transmissions. 1 GT69 reacted to this
