69mach1build 22 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 I am getting ready to drop my shortblock into the car and I am looking for a good set of engine mounts for my Windsor that can hold up to a lot of extra horsepower. Any recommendations? 4 Selmadox, Zefevinee, joledVem and 1 other reacted to this
barnett468 418 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 good quality stock mounts with a chain or torque bar . urethane mounts will increase vibration

RPM 1,190 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 Or drill a hole thru the rubber mount and secure it with a nut and bolt.
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 If you are thinking old school with a stock type of motor mount you can look at the Lakewood Muscle Mount. They're advertised as having an interlocking setup so they cannot come apart if the rubber breaks and are made with a higher durometer rated rubber. I don't know how true that is. I installed a set, they look like stock. But they fit better than anything I've used from a parts store, and the rubber has a different smell than the mounts I removed that came from NAPA. RPM's idea is an old school trick that works. It will increase vibrations a little because the rubber cannot stretch with a bolt in there. Maybe, on the nut side in RPM's pictures, install a rubber washer then a large flat washer underneath the lock nut. Then the mount can stretch a little but still not come apart. barnett468 418 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 Or drill a hole thru the rubber mount and secure it with a nut and bolt. But then you wont see it . Go chrome or go home! 1 RPM reacted to this
DocWok 30 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 RPM's way of adding extra security is good, you can see he has installed a Ny-Lok nut on it. If you want the rubber mount to work as it should and absorb vibrations then just leave the locking nut with a bit of clearance between it and the mount. That way the rubber mount can still stretch to a degree but the bolt will then limit how far it can go when you 'hammer' it !
MikeStang 247 Report post Posted December 15, 2016 I have broken motor mounts on mild 289, 302s and my 408, for some reason they just don't last... I have done the old school chain deal and it helps

Jetnoise 36 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 I don't know what other plans you have for your engine/exhaust or transmission. Those chosen plans can greatly effect what motor mount you'll need. My W based stroker has no problems with the stock replacement motor mounts yet
JD08 42 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 I always heard the driver's side is the mount you need to pin and that doing the other was wasn't necessary due to the way torque moves the engine. It seems like that would help minimize the NVH problem.
lanky 44 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 I switched out to the RMP 1/2" lower mounts and can report a slight vibration at idle and no extra vibration anywhere else. I am very happy with my setup.
cavboy78 28 Report post Posted December 19, 2016 i have the rmp mounts, mostly because i needed the 1/2" drop for hood clearance. My girl is loud and rumbly anyways, so i haven't even noticed any added nvh. fwiw...

THE EVIL TW1N 12 Report post Posted December 24, 2016 If I could do it over, I would get 1/2" lowering mounts from the get go. I went with Ron Morris Performance fully adjustable. It gives you the most options going forward. I also have a 427w, but am also running a T56 Magnum.
