copb8 97 Report post Posted December 6, 2016 One of my center caps fell off and I'm trying to replace it. I bought, and now have to return, one from CJP. It didn't have the same thickness or mounting method. My cap is 1" tall and clips to the wheel via spring clips (9) on the back. I've searched and it doesn't appear there's a reproduction part of this. Here are some links to pics https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68608749/2016-12-04%2020.44.09.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68608749/2016-12-04%2020.44.20.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68608749/2016-12-04%2020.41.14.jpg I 'think' I found one one ebay but it's 75 bucks so I'll have to assume it's an original 2 Ardisscag and Zefevinee reacted to this

mark69sportsroof 31 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 The 71 -73 Mustangs center caps were taller then the prior years. My 73 Mach 1 had the thinner caps but were not original to the car. After contacting my local Mustang parts shore they verified the taller ones for 71-73. That's my understanding. Mark
1969Fstback 58 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 I'm looked for mine, haven foumd them yet. But in my garage you'd have a hard time finding Noah's ark if it was in there. However, looking at pics of the wheels mine look to be thinner then the ones you have. Closer to the one you got from cjp.
copb8 97 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 Thanks all. I guess the original owner put on the 71-73 caps because he liked the thickness of them. It's funny he did that since he'd have had to pay more to put something non-original on.
stangs-R-me 120 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 I'm no expert on Magnum center caps, but I'd guess the new Scott Drake mounting method with the ring & screws from the back is probably not original ... they just do it to make them more or less theft-proof as mounted on the car. You want the caps you now got to steal the whole wheel & tire set !! The OE spring clip mounting type are REAL EASY to STEAL and since these repro caps are not cheap, I'm thinking S-D took the liberty of changing them as it is not something you see once mounted. copb8 97 Report post Posted December 8, 2016 The new style cap with back plate and screws didn't fit my wheel. If they had I'd probably just move to those and not worry about them falling of, or being taken off.
