69 Black Jade Rebirth

Recommended Posts

Kicking myself everyday for the last 30 years for selling my 69 Aculpulco Blue Drag Pack Mach, then finding it 4 years ago, unaffordable of course. The 70 conv came close, but once you've owned a big block Mach, there isn't a comparison in my book. I was able to get a 68 J code coupe at a good price, restore, then flip, in which I finally reached a financial part of my life where I could fulfill my dream of owning another FE 69 Mach 1. I was able to persuade a buddy of mine, after a year, to sell his project to me in April this year. He had owned the car for the past 3 years and had done very little to nothing to it, he had bought it from the second owner where it was dismantled, boxed up, and sat for at least 10 years. The last state inspection was from 1986. The 390 had been rebuilt and never started ,so started there, then the brakes, then the suspension, after many steps forward and a lot more back......she received her new coat of Black Jade, today. I'm going to catch up with a lot of photos to this point, then post as she progresses. I have found this website to be very beneficial along with the pleasure a giving back.

Coming home, how she sat for 10 plus years, sanded down

After replacing the metal fuel lines, gas tank float and gasket, brake lines, wheel cylinders, mast cylinder, power steering hoses and assist, and rebuilding suspension, she made her maiden voyage.

Next stop was to get the front end aligned, then to Triple F Automotive for paint. While she has been there, have had multiple offers to sale her from customers checking on theirs cars progress. They are amazed on how straight and rust free she is. All the sheet metal is original, even the hood, in which the cross appeared to had been cut out by closer exsamination.

Hey Casey:

Congrats on the huge progress on a tremendous car. I know it's not an SCJ. Few are. But a super high value 1 of 1 has some real downside, a tendency to become a trailer queen and high insurance costs among them. When you wrote "Kicking myself everyday for the last 30 years for selling my 69 Aculpulco Blue Drag Pack Mach, then finding it 4 years ago, unaffordable of course." it struck a chord. I sold a 1934 5-window project car 30+ years ago and have been kicking myself as well. I also sold my '68 Charger 440 4v 4sp Dana car I had in high school. I can't watch that damn Graveyard Cars show because it's just too painful.

The odder than odd thing though is that I own a '69 Acapulco Blue Drag Pack Mach. It's no one of one, it's a one of 3.388 but it has been the patch on my heart for the '34 and a fond reminder of my HS car in personality, smell, performance and pretty much every other way. 15 years of ownership of the SCJ and it has been a life saver.

Enjoy driving the Black Jade beauty. I wouldn't blame you if you put CJ valve covers on it and an aftermarket shaker. Nothing wrong with that in my mind at all.

Best,

Paul

Congratulations on the progress with your new dream Mach 1. Black Jade is a beautiful color on a '69 Mustang! I'm sure this car will be just as special to you as your first one was, and you should have some great memories of the restoration. The work you have done with it looks really good and perhaps soon you will be cruising in it enjoying the results.

Restored the steering wheel today, wood stain and clear satin, using silver pinstripe under the 6 coats of clear. Used black plasti-coat for the back. On the spoke front, washers with tape over the center for large and small, a penny for the middle to cover/protect the silver cup rings, sprayed with,fabric/vinyl paint. Then came back with a silver/argent paint pen. Once my horn ring insert comes in, wheel will be complete

Man would I love to be able to restore Mustangs for a living, currently it's my stress release

Yep, I'm with you there.

Thanks. Sure doesn't seem like work, more like therapy.

All these things added up make the interior of these cars so nice, very nice haul :)

The saga continues, 3 steps forward and 2 back. Went by to check on the finished buffing job and found a sanded car. The owner said the paint wasn't up to his standards, so they sanded it back down and will repaint it again tomorrow, all on his dime. I know I will appreciate this in the long run, but there goes another week. I'm running out things to restore for the car.
