stangnet33 88 Report post Posted September 18, 2016 Been thinking about doing this mode for awhile now as I've already decided to improve the steering by adding a rack at least. Working for Chrysler I've have not been able to actually get my hands on one to check it out.

stangnet33 88 Report post Posted September 19, 2016 Electric Power Steering Assist?? Toilet ?? I think your on the wrong forum buddy, no plumbers here Just gear heads :) Yes, some people drop the A. Basically you get a steering column out of a Saturn Vue or Chev Equinox and fab it with your stang column. You will also need a controller, which there is a couple suppliers to get them from. Haven't come across anyone that has done it not happy. Looks like this :
Angel 24 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 After doing some research, I've decided to go this route. I will be selling my new power rack and pinion and buying a manual rack to go along with this system. I want to clean up the engine bay and this seems like a great way to do that. I like that it gets rid of the hydraulic system and im sure its lighter too. 1 RPM reacted to this
stangs-R-me 120 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 On new Ford's it known as EPAS ... I really like it ... my 2011 had it as does my current 2016 and wife's 2014 Fusion. Did a bunch of research on it a few years back and considered a conversion kit for my manual steering '69. CJP was selling a bolt-in kit (maybe still are), but it was kinda spendy. Only down side is more clutter under the dash, but IMO better than more clutter under the hood with a pump, hoses, and power rack or box ... especially on a car with PDB Booster and 4-speed Z-Bar that I refuse to change over to hydraulic or cable (which makes the Borgenson box conversion a no-go for me). buening 63 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 There is a very large thread on the VMF about this conversion, with many people successfully doing and loving the conversion. I assume you know of the thread since the photo posted was the creator of that thread. The trick of the conversion is the controller module, which Bruno from UK sells but isn't speed-driven like modern computer cars. Bruno's is variable assist, but is driven by a potentiometer knob instead of VSS. A guy on VMF figured out how to make a module tied to VSS, but due to liability reasons he won't sell them and won't tell anyone how to build one. Most people just find a comfortable setting on the knob and leave it be. Its a relavitely popular mod for the early cars but I've only seen a few 69/70 cars with it done. I'm not a fan of the aftermarket solutions because they don't brace the servo motor to the dash very well. JD08 42 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 I sure would love to get rid of the P/S pump. That thing is basically wedged in there. Tolerances are pretty tight to begin with and that just makes it worse. The only real power options are that and the Saginaw unit, maybe with a remote reservoir. shaun071 62 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 There's been a couple of mustangs here in Australia using an electric p/s pump from a 2010 Holden Astra. I think they were sold in the states as a Chevrolet? Might be worth a look. I'll see if I can find a link. The other thing recommended with this swap was a high output alternator as the road pulls a lot of amps.

shaun071 62 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 Found some info and pics on fitting the electric pump to a Falcon. It's similar enough to a Mustang to be relevant. http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/5136-electric-power-steering-pump-for-351/page-
