Wire Harness Screw/Bolts

Recommended Posts

Ok this maybe nit picking and no will ever see it, but while redoing the HVAC in the car I noticed the wiring harness was not fastened above the Steering column.  There is a plastic sleeve the harness runs through with 2 holes that obviously line up with the metal brace for the steering column.  Does anyone have any idea what size screws/bolts these are?  I have sometime consuming ways to figure it out, but I was hoping someone might know.  I usually can find these by doing a search on Mustangs Unlimited, they seem to have bolt kits for everything, but not in this case.

Well, as usual my memory es no bueno. It's a 1/4-20 x 3/4 or 1". The hex head is 3/8" which is odd. The bracket has threads tapped into it. I moved the harness behind the bracket to allow more room for my aftermarket gauges, and to make it much more difficult to attach the harness to the bracket.

Those bolts/screws are either #14 or 1/4" or so.  They sorta screw into the plastic sleeve---in other words the holes are barely clearance holes.

With some effort (digging through piles of harnesses), I probably can come up with a couple of those bolts.

Hey Midlife thanks for the offer but I'll just run to the hardware store tomorrow.  They don't need to be exact... the car is very far from stock at this point.

RPM.  Thanks for take look for me.  This will save me a lot of time.

As usual this site is the best!

Wasn't there a resource somewhere that documented the size of every fastener? I can't remember if it was a book or a website.

Edit: Found it. The AMK Fastener guide along with the Assembly manuals. Get the part # from the assembly manuals, then look it up in the AMK guide.
