Raven R code 281 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 We have a good thread going on LED tail lights......but what about LED headlights? I know I ran into overload problems with putting halogen bulbs in. I see there are LED bulbs out nowadays......has anyone tried them yet? So far, from what I have found, is that these bulbs are the type(H4 style) that plug into the back of the bulb housing itself. Sounds like those bulbs would work with a modification of the original bulb bucket to allow the bigger bulb connector to fit. I hope going this route would have less of a current draw than the halogens. Anyone tackle this yet? Dave
Footcutter11 23 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 I have HID light, and halogen up front. They work just fine, but do need a relay for the current draw.
Bill_C 3 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 Dave check these out from Truk-lite. http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=119524&langId=-1 We had the sale rep stop in with one at work one day. Low beam was definately bright. Plus I liked the almost blacked out look when they are not on. Bill
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 Hey Bill, Those do look cool. I would say yes if I was going with original black paint ....but not sure about those with Aqua. Where upstate are you located?

Rsmach1 71 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 Those are nice, like the dark tint. Too bad they don't have em in 5.75" for the 69.

I've seen them for bikes and I was thinking the replacement bulb might work but those are $290 each. Also looks kind of big in back. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/724-565 For a more standard LED kit I've been thinking of going with the Mustang Project kit of 4 LED lights for 270. They look like normal H4007 bulb replacements http://www.mustangproject.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ID=5e5db5b8-c86c-47df-9dd2-bae08289dc01 I would probably put a relay on there too as my wiring is getting old. They are much brighter but because of the lens shape in the headlight they can tend to scatter the light and it isn't as focused as a halogen bulb. I found they tend to work better if the reflector is just curved, not multi faceted
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted August 26, 2015 Now the lights from mustang project look suitable. Would you really need a relay for LED lights? I thought since they draw less current, it wouldn't be an issue. Has anyone adapted H4 type bulbs into the stock buckets?
shaun071 62 Report post Posted August 26, 2015 I fitted h4 in the outer and h1 for the inner. The rh buckets will need modding. http://1969stang.com/forum/index.php?/topic/50945-69-coupe-aussie-style-restomod/

I don't see a relay in the kit so the assumption would be you don't need a relay. But I want to do it to reduce the load on the switch and wiring. I clicked on the wrong link from the catalog. Those $300 ones are heated to melt the ice and snow off because LEDs don't create enough heat. They do have regular ones without the heating element. I checked pricing through where I work and I think they were $140 apiece. Sorry for the confusion.
jholmes217 65 Report post Posted September 2, 2015 I've been thinking of getting this, but waiting on an answer to see if it will work with a factory tach car since it will also plug into the alternator harness. http://www.cjponyparts.com/headlight-power-upgrade-harness-for-four-headlights-1969/p/HVU2/
