The intermittent wiper switch from a  1980's Ford truck is a great choice, but it needs to have the washer wire changed to a different location in the plug.  It also needs the control unit, a little black box, that the switch connects up to.  Another no-brainer is the remote trunk release from a mid 80's Crown Vic or  Grand Marquis.  You have to pick the right year car, and it bolts right in.

Another idea is a interior rear view mirror with map lights on it.

Electric choke for the carb is nice

And spare parts are also nice to keep around and cheap to pick up.  Definately include a coil, voltage regulator, and maybe starter and alternator in this category. All the light bulbs are also nice to pick up as spare, usually junk yards give them away as free.

Taurus fans are too deep for cars with motors in the stock location (unless you have a thin radiator).  The countour fan is a bit shallower and places the motors away from the water pump pulley

I have done the following: T56 6-speed from 03 Mustang Cobra, 3g alternator from Taurus, Taurus fan (my motor is not in the stock location), 99-04 mustang convertible rearview mirror (has map lights, also on other GM cars like Trans Ams), intermittant wiper switch from 80's F150, remote power mirror motors from 99-04 mustang (takes work to install into stock mirrors), power trunk release from 70's Lincoln, and Duraspark distributor and ignition box.

Some people install Fiero seats in their cars, as they have speakers built into the head rests. You can get new covers online from some Fiero specialist guy (do more research). Some cars have Recaro seats in them, which are also sometimes good candidates if you want different seats.

Tilt columns from manual shift 70's broncos and F150s look promising for those of us with 70 mustangs with the key in the column.  I haven't tried it yet, only researched it. Might not be something the 69 crowd will do due to the switch in the column.

Then there is the rack and pinions from Cavaliers and a Taurus I believe (both have loss in turning radius), as well as the integral steering box from a 70s Toyota.  Neither is for the faint of heart or a plug-and-play swap.

Probably a little hard to find now ,but the Mercury Comet GT  hood scoop is actually a Cougar Eliminator hood scoop.

If you flip it over you will find it has two sets of mounting bosses ,one set numbered for the mercury and one set numbered for the cougar .the cougar bosses are not drilled out .i have bought a lot of these

The Dual fans from the Contours, or 2000 and up Cougar V6 cars work wonderfully, I run a set of Cougar fans on my 408 and it EASILY Keeps up.

Also the Late 80 Model Ford f-150 Serpentine brackets will all work from the 351s as long as it comes off a 351 or if its a 302 be sure none of the bracket bolts tie into the water pump.... You will need to buy a smog pump eliminator pulley and a shorter belt, the PS pump will work just fine on the old style power steering systems but you will need to have a hose made and buy a 10 dollar PS adapter from Pure motor sports.

Also if you run an aftermarket compressor there is a chance you will have to notch the hood support to clear the top mount hoses, or buy a Hood from Ridgerunner and it will clear just fine. Aside from that its all bolt up and go, or you can fab up a shorter adapter plate for your aftermarket AC compressor.

Junction blocks from the Crown Vics are always a good idea especially if running the battery in the trunk, put one up front and one in the back and you will always have a dedicated reliable spot to pull battery power from.

Grab the relay control block of anything that looks smaller in size that you can modify the brackets on and has a 50 or higher amp service and use it to control those new cougar fans, altho 2ea 30 amp will work just fine.

The Fiero Seats were an AWESOME Addition to my car... ONLY the 1984 model cars had speakers in the headrest, and you can squeeze a 4" driver in each one of the holes without messing anything up :)

I put 2 Kenwood 4" units in each head rest, installed a 10" powered tube and a Pioneer 7" touch screen in mine and it JAMS out... Its actually too much to be honest but you don't have to turn it up very loud to hear the music over the exhaust with the windows down since the speakers are pointing right at your head....Oh and you can modify your stock seat tracks to work with the fiero seats, just need to weld a tab on to the rear of the bracket and drill a hole in each tab and then bolt them on and GO .

Fiero  seats work for just about anything ,i had them in a 31 model A . Seem to find a lot of them with the head rest burned though. Not sure if these had heaters or MikeStang just cranked up the volume a bit to much .

LOL. Didn't' the Fiero's have a problem catching on fire? I remember back in the mid-80's I took a Ford EXP from Ohio to Connecticut, then up the coast to Providence, Boston, then Buffalo and back to Ohio. It was a real hot summer (the EXP didn't have AC) and along the way I saw a Fiero on fire on the side of the highway in PA and a powder blue Coupe de Ville on fire approaching the George Washington Bridge. That was a weird road trip.

G.M. Plans Recall Of 244,000 Fieros, Citing Fire Hazard

AP Published: January 24, 1990

DETROIT, Jan. 23— The General Motors Corporation will recall 244,000 four-cylinder Pontiac Fieros -every one ever made - because of a nagging engine-fire problem that contributed to the company's decision to stop making the two-seater.

I've always wanted to have somesort of list i could use when i go to the pick n pulls to be on the look out for cheap upgrades. So far i only have GT40 heads and rear disc brakes from an explorer, does anybody else have something they want to share?

No new ideas here.  But if those are the GT40 "P" heads that are almost always found on Explorers, be careful of headers fitting.  The P version of the GT40 head has the spark plugs at a different angle.  Everything I have read about using them on vehicles other than Explorers says exhaust is an issue because of the spark plug angle.

The GT40 heads came on 93-95 Cobras and 96-early 98 5.0 Explorers.  The GT40Ps came on late-98 to 2001 5.0 Explorers.  There's been lots of discussion on which is better.  The general consensus is it's a toss up performance wise.  Get the GT40s and don't fight with the exhaust issue.

Junk yard pieces I've picked up are:

Taurus fan (I am running a 94 water pump with Ron Morris adjustable motor mounts and should have plenty of clearance)

Early 80s F150 wiper switch and control box

Crown Vic front disk brakes (am still working on adapting those, but the calipers/pads are larger than the Cobra brakes)

GM j-body rack from a 1994 Sunbird LE (be careful on selecting your donor, you want one with the Sport suspension (FE2, FE3, F41, FE7, which can be found on the RPO sticker, often located somewhere in the trunk) -- I didn't know when I originally went and ended up with a stock ration FE1)

Long tube headers from a Fox-body Mustang (incase the rack upgrade interferes with my original long tubes)

The hydroboost booster and master cylinder from a GMC Safari/Chevy Astro Van.  It's pretty long when comparing it to the hydroboost/MC from a Mustang.  (4.6L Mustangs are hard to come by in my PnP.)

Front retractable seat belts from an 84 Ranger

Rear view mirror and pig tail from a 94-98 Mustang Convertible

I bought GT40 heads and intake off the internet, but 5.0 Explorers are common enough at my PnP I could have gotten them from there.

The multi-speed windshield wiper motor is available on a TON of vehicles.  It was used from 1966-1994 on various, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, AMC, Jeep and Mazda vehicles.

Happy hunting!

Chuck

Edit:

Where the f#(k did the 69Torino.gif come from and how do I delete it???
