Raven R code 281 Report post Posted May 28, 2015 Question going out to owners of big block fastbacks. My car still has the original chrome styles wheels (14x7) with 70 series tires. I looked at a tire calculator and found that 15x7" 60 series would provide the same ride height. My question is about how this setup might affect handling and the ride. Thanks , Dave
barnett468 418 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 .' it will make the ride slightly firmer but it will also increase the stability under all conditions . . this is all due to the lower sidewall . . this is a great mild handling improvement.
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 Great!....that is what I expected but just wanted to hear from experience. I'm planning on getting the 15x7" Magnum 500's with the BF Goodrich RWL 215R15-60 as a package .
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 Just thought about something.....the backspace. Should I stay stock?
barnett468 418 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 i would use stock backspace and i only use wheels from specialty wheel . . you may be very unhappy if you use any others. the 215 x 65-15 is a great inbetween tire . . i have used dozens of them . . they are not so low in height that they leave a huge space between the tire and the rim. FYI - T/A radials are popular and look great but there are better tires put there.

MikeStang 247 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 Man a 265 or 275 rear tire really fills up the rear wheel well and looks good on our cars in a BFG Radial. I have half a mind to stop messing with 17s and 18s and go to a wide set of 15s in the rear with a big ol 15" Drag radial, but im looking for more of a Pro Touring look and its starting to look like I may need to have a custom set of wheels built for the look I want in the back 1 RPM reacted to this
Rsmach1 71 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 X2 on a 265/275 on the rear, I run 225 on the front and the larger on the rear, nice look. Can't remember which on the rear, I have to go look, getting old "SUCKS" lol.

1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 Magnum 500's are nice. But everybody uses them and they're a heavy steel wheel. The aluminum versions I've seen do a poor job of mimicking them.
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 I have 245 60 15s on my 69 Shelby replica all the way around .Not sure if they will clear stock front fenders but they clear the Shelby fenders .The back is no problem . I had 245 60 14s on my old 70 fastback on 7 inch Magnums .I like the ride of the BFGs
Rip Rock 13 Report post Posted May 29, 2015 A 275 should clear without and modifications. When I had the leafs in the rear, that's what I was running. Currently I'm running some 305/35 18 in the rear. With the correct offset I bet I could fit a 315. My problem was I didn't want to spend a small fortune on custom offset wheels. No tire rub at all with the 305. Has a tcp 4 link coil overs. Helps a bit with clearance though
barnett468 418 Report post Posted May 30, 2015 Barnett.....would be interested to know what other rubber is out there. Buckeye....pictures please Thanks! i forgot to mention, they don't make raised white letter in 215 x 65 - 15 these are both better than the ta's http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Defender&partnum=165TR5DEF the tread looks a little dorky http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=P4+Four+Seasons&partnum=165TR5P4V2

BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted May 30, 2015 i forgot to mention, they don't make raised white letter in 215 x 65 - 15 did they recently stop making the 215/65 15 T/A in a RWL? I was able to get that size in RWL for mine a few years ago.

I was able to get that size in RWL for mine a few years ago. sorry for the confusion . . i was referring to the other tire mfg's . . that being said, i have probably bought of $20,000.00 in ta's over the years and not too long ago the distributor said they were going to discontinue most of them . . they couldn't get the 235 x 60 - 15's for several months, then after 6 months, they were back ordered again . . then another size got back ordered for several months . . kinda strange. firestone used to make raised white letters in that size but if they still did, i don't know that they would be better than the ta's. barnett468 418 Report post Posted May 30, 2015 Where is the confusion? post 19 from RPM . . thats buckey demon's car but for some unknown reason rpm thinks it's mine. this being said, the fronts on buckey demons car are the 215 x 65-15's i mentioned . . if you use the 215 x 60 - 15's you first asked about, there will be even more space between the tire and the fender which is why i suggested the slightly higher profile.
